sorry I have no link. I just heard this on itv at ten news.

I wonder why they didn't keep the mother alive for another few weeks. wouldn't that give the baby a much better chance. They kept her alive for 2 days for the baby's sake, so I am jsut wondering why not longer.

I hope the baby is ok.

Gosh - 25 weeks is very early, so they must have thought she had more chance out than in for some reason.

It's almost impossible to artificially regulate a body sufficiently to continue a pregnancy - think of the body temperature, hormones, everything that you just take for granted that your brain will take care of...

perhaps to do with the haemorrhage? Could have affected the blood supply to the placenta?

Very sad.

LiffeyMermaid · 12/01/2009 22:27

Yes, must have something like that, placenta breaking down...

This made me all tearful she had a tumour that she was unaware of...how sad. I was particularly moved when the reporter said they placed the baby girl on her mothers skin for a few moments. I do hope she makes it.

LiffeyMermaid · 12/01/2009 22:32

Yes, the little girl will probably be glad to know that they placed her on her mother's body. I hope they took lots of photos for her.

I wonder if they'd have thought of that? I mean if she's that early, I guess the priority would've been to get her into the place she'd need to be...

poor family. Hope the baby does well.

Frizbe · 12/01/2009 22:54

Oh very sad story, I hope the little girl makes it.

KewcumbersRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 12/01/2009 23:05

well she's a little bigger than DS was and he (appears!) at 3yrs to be pretty normal so there is hope for the little girl yet.

that is so sad, but also amazing. medical science is a wonderful thing. it would have been even sadder for both lives to have been lost.
