Meeting at Hyde park , speakers corner, at 12.30pm, and march on Israeli embassy.

I can't do links but details of coaches from most cities is on the Palestinain solidarity Campaign website, and Stop the War Coalition website if anyone wants more details.

Anyone in support, please bump for others information.

Thanks.

yup, letter from Tony Benn and lots of other signatories in today's Guardian. Am wondering if I should take my 7 yr old dd.

tiredsville · 08/01/2009 22:49

I went on the anti war demo a few years ago Donnie and I personally think your DC would be annoyed with the amount of walking, especially if it's cold.

Heathcliffscathy · 08/01/2009 22:50

i marched against the way when pregnant and it felt great to actually do something. however ineffective

donnie · 08/01/2009 22:53

yes, my dh has just said he thinks she is too young. although I was pleasantly surprised when he said she can go on marches once she's 10!

we have to keep this pressure on. We HAVE to.

sunitaofdockgreen · 08/01/2009 23:03

So how many are going? Which banners will you be flying? Ball park figures are okay. Pls reply by Friday so I can pass the numbers to my boss at SB. Seriously, do you think taking children to a Demo that could turn violent sensible. Is there a possibility that you will get angry with the police because your child is hungry, cold and crying and you'll want to take them away to the tube station, they have closed off to you for safety.

tiredsville · 08/01/2009 23:08

Please, if any of you are on this thread tomorrow night, nag me not to change my mind. It's so easy to get caught up in the moment of good and then thinking,
"nah, I'll send an email instead."
Something that I am often guilty of doing

donnie - I went last Saturday, without dc and was pleased to see a few children, though not so many.

I also went on a STW demo a while back with dc and was mightily pleased to discover my NCT group, from the area we had just moved from, out in force, with all children present.

That really cheered everyone up. Your dh and tiredsville have a point about the walking. Up until we met up with the other children, dd moaned and moaned about how tired she was. Ds was a bit older (8 maybe?) and was interested in what was going on, so no moaning.

I think the trick is to try and go with other children.

A lot of unions will be marching with their banners.

If you are a member of a union, and need someone to go with, why not check if your work colleagues or branch is going tomorrow?

yet another vital reason to march

(AP) - A U.N. agency has said Israeli troops evacuated Palestinian civilians to a house in Gaza City, then shelled the building 24 hours later.
The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs dated the incident to Jan. 4, a day after Israel began its ground offensive against Hamas militants in Gaza.
Based on eyewitness testimony, the account added details to an incident previously reported by The Associated Press and an Israeli human rights group.
The U.N. agency said 110 people were in the house and 30 people were killed, far higher figures than in other accounts.
It said a Red Cross medical team was blocked from reaching the area until three days later. Rescuers were allowed in on foot, without ambulances.
The Israeli military had no comment on the report Friday

donnie · 09/01/2009 12:09

another reason to march is that Israel has decided to ignore the UN resolution for an immediate ceasefire.

wannaBe · 09/01/2009 12:14

people take children on these marches?

ByTheSea · 09/01/2009 12:18

DH took the DC (12, 9 and 6) last week (I was away) and would like to go on Saturday but we have other plans. My DC have been on several marches since 2003, when DD2 was in a pushchair.

FWIW, DD1-9 saw the front page of the Guardian the other day and asked if the Palestinian children were dead. Before I could answer, she said she knew they were and wishes she could do something about it. I told her she was doing something when she marched.

AntiqueIceCream · 09/01/2009 12:28

There were quite a few children on last weeks march.

I didn't take mine as I felt the youngest is a bit too little (5yrs) and would just moan..

I would definietly take them if older, I want them to grow up with a sense that the wider world is something they should take notice of and be involved in and that where they see injustice they should speak out and stand up and be counted.

BTW I am by no means or any strech of the imagination 'militant' I have been on 2 marches in my life, make Poverty History and last week for Gaza. If slightly older I would have happily taken my children on both.

Bythesea - that was a good answer. I have decided not to take dd as she is a bit young but in principle I think taking kids is a good idea. Wannabe, wht are you alarmed?

donnie · 09/01/2009 12:37

'why'

madlentileater · 09/01/2009 12:41

for people who don't want to or can't go to London there will be local events also.

fondant4000 · 09/01/2009 12:53

You can help raise money for the Palestine Solidarity Campaign by buying one of these

t-shirts

Featuring words partly inspired by one of the hundreds of hand-written anonymous placards carried at the Jan 3rd demonstration in London.

It shows the cycle of despair that has turned the tiny Gaza strip into a war zone.

madlentileater · 09/01/2009 13:00

can't find the one you mean?

fondant4000 · 09/01/2009 13:30

Sorry - silly bloomin' site!

Thought the link would take you direct. You need to click on 'dissenters' and it's the pale blue one with Palestinian flag in words on it.

madlentileater · 09/01/2009 15:45

www.amnesty.org.uk/actions_details.asp?ActionID=551

this link to an Amnesty International page, calling on UK govt to support a humanitarian truce.

EBenes · 09/01/2009 15:48

"Israeli troops evacuated Palestinian civilians to a house in Gaza City, then shelled the building 24 hours later."

This is called a war crime. I wish I could join this protest but am nowhere near and have a very young baby.

fondant4000 · 09/01/2009 15:59

I can't go either EBenes - dcs too young, and too cold . But I'm sure plenty of people will be going, and I hope they know how much those of us who can't go appreciate their effort.

madlentileater · 09/01/2009 16:01

you don't have to go to London- other places have vigils or you can write to the govt, your mp etc see amnesty link above also

tiredsville · 09/01/2009 19:53

Yes, I still have my mind set on going, just not looking forward to the weather. Wish it wasn't so bloody cold.
