Regardless of the sentencing, I don't think these boys will have heard the last of it!

Last year ds, then 6, stole a sweet from the corner shop, we were back ome when I discovered it in his pocket, so I frog marched him back to the shop to return th item and opologised, he was mortified, anyway a week or so later we were in the supermarket, when ds says to me very loudly in fron of a dozen people " I'm not going to steal anything today mum" that was my time to be mortified

This was front page of the local paper, with the older boy named.
I thought it was brilliant then as well

It was one of the mothers who said it, korma - I just took it to mean "look, single mothers do have standards you know!"

whoingodsname dd1 has a thing about stealing creme eggs . She doesn't even like creme eggs. She says they are too sticky. I always make her take them back when I find them. It never stopped her untill one day 'the scary lady' made her sit in the office while she pretended to call the police. She hasn't done it since and still won't look at 'the scary lady'

Single mothers are to blame for bringing up children who will turn into criminals didn't you know that Korma? We are not capable of raising children unless their is a father in the picture. My XtwankerP even told me that if I had his baby without his permission there would be no need to contact me re seeing her because he would see her in his professional capacity as a prohibation officer when she was a teenager

Well she didn't start stealing creme eggs untill after I met DH so I think I did a better job alone

I actually think it's a good thing the paper made a point of mentioning that they were single mothers and were standing up to their children as it goes against any of the stereotypes that the media has.

I whole heartily agree with this approach to young offenders but I would take it further.

I think an eye for an eye approach would be even more effective.

You steal someone's posessions then you not only return it or compensate for its loss but lose something of yours e.g. x-box, mobile phone, TV etc.
