Woolworths - so sad

Anyone else see the report on ITV news? The poor store manager looked so upset in his empty store today. Had my first Saturday job in Woolies. Brought a lump to my throat. Really feel for all the staff who have no jobs to go to.

there's a massive hole on our street now that woolies has gone. and the pisser is that this is now going to force us to go to big out of town supermarkets where previously i could get everything locally (which is what caused woolies problems in the first place).

i used my shop a lot, me and the dds went in and thanked the staff yesterday as they were clearing out.

ours will probably become another 'christmas world' or maybe more seasonably 'easter world'

Was in our town at 10am this morning and it was so quiet it was eerie. No Woolies, Adams, kwik Print place, Officers Club and USC plus lots of little stores shut down.

it's really shit for the people who are losing their jobs.

Fio, you clearly have lots of skills. What big companies are there in your area? It would be worth writing to them to see if there are any vacancies - am happy to help in any way I can with covering letters etc (wrote lots of them back in the day lol). you can get my email address off ttr if I can help?

Also, what about stuff you could do at home - taking in ironing (yes I know would be my nightmares all rolled into one but it pays quite well) dog walking/pet sitting (some peopleare still going on holidays and paying someone to come and feed the cats would be cheaper than a cattery).

Babysitting? You could do that in evenings when dh is home (not ideal but would pay for the time being).

.

ah, welcome to my world.

what about party planning.

A friend of mine is a pampered chef consultant, and she's still doing really really well. The general thinking seems to be that people are having these parties rather than goin out.

'aitch, ours has left a hole in the town tooand we are a small town and the nearest place we can get 'stuff' is bastard tescos, which involves a 6 mile car journey (or worse the bus). '

the nearest place we can now get 'stuff', including any type of childrens' clothing, is a bastard tesco's as well, a ferry crossing and miles beyond that away. if you have no car, it's a very long and expensive journey because it involves getting one of those crap McGill's buses that also cost a bomb.

losing our Woolie's was a real loss, for jobs as well as the people.

ours closed on 29 december and as they shut the doors, some of us went by with gifts of drams and flowers and that.
