My sister spent a few weeks in hospital late last year and used her mobile phone the whole time she was in to send messages to her mum and myself. Since my sister lives in another town and I wasn't able to go and visit her while she was in hospital it was a good way to keep in touch.

I used my phone openly when I was in hospital having DD, and no-one ever told me not to. I assumed that it had been allowed for ages.

Doctors and nurses have been using them in operating theatres (where I worked until fairly recently) for years.

Load of old nonsense about them interfering with equipment post analogue. The chattering on wards may be a different thing, though.

I honestly don't see a problem. The patients I used to nurse were in hospital for long stretches at a time. Our cn was pretty cool and insisted Patientline was banned because it is a total rip off to the most vulnerable people.Imagine you were hospitalised undergoing chemo for weeks/months on end and sometimes when your immune system was depleted and your children couldn't visit and you couldn't use your mobile.....how crap is that???

where i had DS, they didn't even have TVs!

and the senior midwife missed her calling by skipping the auditions for Nurse Ratchett. she was a major battleaxe.

i was busting to get out of there.

I had my mobile with me when in for a week after giving birth to dd. Nurses didn't fuss if they saw you texting but did ask someone who was having very loud conversations to keep it down a bit. I think it's great, my mobile was a life-line and stopped me going stir-crazy.
