Baby barred from BA flight until her parents could prove she wasn't contagious story

my little girl also suffers from this condition although not as badly.

If it was you with the little boy who complained and kicked up a fuss then shame on you!

sunny - no i dont expect people to be able to recognised every skin condition going, not one of the 8 GP's at our practise nor the general paed could diagnose DD2, in fact the dermatology reg had to double check with her text book, as i've said above what annoyed me is that people assume i am selfish and have brought a child with a contagious diease out into the general public. Hulababy can vouch for the dirty loks we got in a shopping centre last monday when DD2 decided to expose her tummy to all and sundry because she was showing us how full it was after ehr lunch.

At the end of the day what i am annoyed at is that there are irresponsible parents who do take contagious children onto public transport/places and therefore people like the mum in the paper and i have to defend our children who aren't contagious in any way.

Well, as the little girl's parents didn't have it, didn't that 'prove' it wasn't contagious??

of course not! how ridiculous

I think BA behaved perfectly well under the circs

i think like the other thread on this i will have to just back away, i'm too close to this to be objective and basically other people's selfish behaviour has potentially made travelling harder for me and my daughter.

I agree with Littlefish. I would have presented the papers at the outset so that the airline staff could have dealt with the complaint quickly and calmly.

Poor child, and (her) poor family.

Can't see what BA did wrong here, TBH.

stardazzle · 05/01/2009 22:10

bubble - i don't think BA are in the wrong, the people in the worng are parents who do take contagious children on planes and therefore those of us with children with rare skin conditions are tarred with the same level of selfishness.

dilema - as i have said before if it was me and your aunt on the same flight then i would happily explain my child's condition, however i don't think i should have to notify the airline prior to travel.

On a couple of occasions (once when a dc had an allergic reaction and once when I was pregnant but looked more so as it was twins and one had a lethal heart condition) I made sure I had letters / certificates from my GP and offered them at check in and on boarding. I agree people shouldn't assume a parent is selfish enough to take a sick child on board, but enough do, and if my child had some kind of reduced immunity they would be my priority. It would have made life much less stressful for the mother and child to offer up the medical certificate.
