Toilets dangerous for small boys

See here news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7779024.stm

I have a small boy who uses the toilet but there's no way I'm leaving the seat up permanently.

My dd is 15 months. If she finds an open toilet, she likes to put her hand down it - maybe suck a bit of the water off her fingers.

Sorry, the title I've put makes it sound like I'm taking this really seriously. Meant to be a bit tounge in cheek.

not at the toilet stage with DS but yet another reason why I will be teaching him to sit down ...

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 12/12/2008 12:44

Both DSs were simply taught to wee sitting down when they were trained. They progressed naturally to standing up when they were taller and older.

My son is 7 and still sits down. Was mentioned to me at plyschool but don't see why it is a problem.

maretta · 12/12/2008 12:48

My ds1 who is 5 likes to stand, only lift the lid, not the seat and then look in the other direction.

How odd. Surely they are holding them whilst they wee? Why doesn't the toilet seat just hit their fingers. Or do they just flop it over the rim?

well I'm not rushing out to replace the "heavy" toilet seat that I recently bought - despite having 3 boys (2 that use the toilet)

Can't say either of them have managed to end up with squahsed penis's (or fingers) and they've both used teh toilet standing up for ^years)

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 12/12/2008 12:58

My best friend broke 4 fingers cleaning the toilet

So they can be dangerous for us girls too you see. LOL.

I have one of those slow close ones it was here when we moved in though wouldnt buy it otherwise it is good right enough.

toilet seats these days are really really badly designed. you have to fiddle about with the connections to get them to stay up and then they break within 3 or 4 months ime.

nope, not only boys! my loo seat is split (I know, I keep meaning to buy another one ) and I made the VERY big mistake of sitting on it, instead of lifting the lot like normal and sitting on the pan (is that what it's called? ) itself. It TRAPPED me ladybits!!! ow. feck me that's a pain I never want to feel again.

Still not replaced seat yet though.

No, surely it is the other way around?
