I didn't even know they were in trouble! Although it makes sense if no-one is moving home that they would be.

Woolworths probably next. It is scarey times.

Oh but MFI are rubbish. They tried to go upmarket which was stupid because their brand would never be associated with quality. We went to buy a bed but their mattresses were over twice as much as the internet even though they were allegedly 65% off.
They've had it coming, can't get worried about this one.

They've been vergeing on this for a number of years I think. Also, they were really disorganised and shoddy imo. Sorry for people's jobs though.

I'm not surprised. We tried and failed several times to get served in our local MFI when we were looking for a new market. On our third attempt, we actually managed to speak to the manager and he was the rudest man I have ever met. He huffed and puffed when he was called over to talk to us so we did him a favour and didn't buy there.

Last time I went in (for price comparison purposes) I didn't see any staff at all, just some very bewildered customers.

MFI were crap. A couple of years ago we bought an oven from them with a guarantee. When it broke down 6 months later, it took them a month to come round and fix it. This compared to another company sending someone the next day to fix our broken washing machine. I was not impressed and swore never to buy anything from them again.

Personally I'd be dubious about the goods actually being delivered. They never have any stock.

Oh dear. All those staff losing their job so close to christmas.

The administrators tend to sell off any assets though so a cheap sofa etc may be possible.

Marne - watch the prices! Our local store closed a few weeks ago so we went to have a look - a sideboard we bought 2 years ago was selling with 70% off, for £230. Whwne we bought it 2 years ago we paid - yes, £230 and it wasn't in the sale then. Apparently it used to retail at over £1000. Their bum. They've hacked up the original prices to get people in to thinking they're gettinga bargain.

PS: sideboard a load of rubbish too.

We had an MFI kitchen fitted 5 months ago....its guaranteed for 10 years...what happens if something goes wrong with it?

rubbish customer service, not a surprise. also did some business with their senior management team recently, pretty chaotic and unprofessional bunch of people.

It's desperately sad when people lose their jobs, but rubbish businesses with crap service like MFI will be the first to fall in a recession.

You could say that the 'boom' gave lots of business success they did not deserve and they are now reaping what they sowed.

My dad worked for MFI when I was a kid and he was really nice to the customers - honest! I wouldn't defend them now though. Overpriced fall-apart tat. Made For Idiots indeed (sorry to the person who bought their kitchen!)

iirc this isn't the first time and last time round there was a management buyout. I doubt we've seen the last of either MFI or Woolworths as a brand.
