Romy7 · 07/11/2008 20:10

saltire · 07/11/2008 20:15

Makes a change doesn't it, for a military story to not mention the "army"

yeah, and they were a bit handy in 1940 too

saltire · 08/11/2008 09:51

Incredible story. Gave me the shivers when I heard about it.

(My Grandad and Granny were in the RAF in WW2 - well, Granny was in the women's auxiliary thingy - so have been brought up to have much respect for the boys in RAF blue.)

Dh is son of wartime Navy man, so he says Senior Service is the best but of course we all know the Brylcreem Boys are the most glamorous

imnotmamagbutshelovesme · 08/11/2008 21:53

That isn't right. All are different and I never knew they were all lumped together as Army.

That was a fab story, and don't you just love the understatement - all-in-day's-work type stuff.

Dh's father was in the RAF for many years, joining in 1925 when he was 15yo. Dh joined the RN, just to annoy his father!

Sidge · 08/11/2008 22:05

It was a great story! Well done RAF you done good

Suedonim my FIL was in the RAF for about 40 years; DH joined the Navy at 17 just to wind him up I think!

saltire · 08/11/2008 22:20

We are on a mission to convince the BBC and the general public that there are 3 branches of the Armed Forces

Shoshe · 08/11/2008 22:22

Ahem, I am Army!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But Dad did 28 years in the RAF, and Eldest DB is a Wing Commander in the RAF, and we are always telling DH he is in the wrong service

Shoshe · 08/11/2008 22:23

Actually I am not Army , DH is
