US Election Watch - we'll be here for a while!

After the success of the all day / night London Election party we had earlier in the year, who fancies one for the US election?

Lots of nothing news so far from the US - some polling stations have long queues, but others don't! John McCain says tomorrow he "will be the President of the United States!" Sarah Palin is "very optimistic!" Hilary Clinton is predicting a big Obama win! Obama has been playing basketball!

Its going to be a good one..

Now what happens in the UK. Did Gordon Brown stay up all night? What does he have to say about this?

SuperBunny · 05/11/2008 05:55

What about Prop 8?

dooneygirl · 05/11/2008 05:58

The bible-thumpers are prevailing so far, unfortunately. Still a long ways to go, though.Stupid bible-thumpers

SuperBunny · 05/11/2008 05:59

Really? How awful

SuperBunny · 05/11/2008 06:00

lol - Alaska only just finished voting!

PortoTreasonandPlot · 05/11/2008 06:02

Well done Obama!

alipiggie · 05/11/2008 06:02

We're Blue, Blue Blue here in CO. Yeah. There'll be some happy people at work tomorrow, including me. Roll on Jan 21, 2009. Will be a truly momentous day. Remember this day guys, where you were and what you were doing (hopefully not working like me ). I even let my ds1 watch the results. He's gone to bad a very very excited little boy.

dooneygirl · 05/11/2008 06:06

Gee, I wonder who Alaska voted for?

Ali! Welcome to the party. When they called CO, I shouted "Go Ali"!!

alipiggie · 05/11/2008 06:07

Thanks Dooney . I'm sat here snuffling silly me. I already emailed my boss and said my work may not quite be up to parr tomorrow am lol

dooneygirl · 05/11/2008 06:10

It WAS because of you that Colorado got it right this time, you know. If Indiana pulls through, then it is SB's boyfriend's doing. You have to admire the logic in my world, don't you.

alipiggie · 05/11/2008 06:13

Cool, it was my little boys who persuaded their buddies at school. I love your logic.

SuperBunny · 05/11/2008 06:13

Oh, before I go to bed, I just want to share a little story:

We were walking around downtown this evening and DS (3) was asking why there were so many people. I was explaining that we were going to get a new president and that people were very excited. I reminded him that he had met Obama and that Obama is very famous now. DS looked at me, thought for a bit and said, "So, is he like Ronald MacDonald then?"*

SuperBunny · 05/11/2008 06:14

I love your logic, DOoney!

SuperBunny · 05/11/2008 06:14

Perhaps I should mention that DS has met Ronald MacDonald at my work events. He thinks we are good friends

CF sadly the bigots seem to be winning in other areas . However, let's live in hope tonight that things will change for the better. And on that bright and very optimistic note, fellow expats I bid you goodnight and let's all raise a "wee dram" to our new and wonderful 44th President to be - I give you Mr Barack Obama - YEAH.

CoteDAzur · 05/11/2008 06:40

Yooo hoooo. Barack Obama is the new US President, with 338 electroral votes!

morningpaper · 05/11/2008 06:41

I'm so shocked

Wow What a morning

whomovedmychocolate · 05/11/2008 06:43

Hurrah!

travellingwilbury · 05/11/2008 06:46

Congratulations to America and well done for making a marvellous decision

finknottle · 05/11/2008 06:52

Any one else notice how reluctant the networks were to call the states for Obama? I came home from a PTA meeting at midnight expecting the usual frenzied exit poll analysis and wishful 'looks like/could well be that CNN/ABC are going to call X state for Y' - and it was so muted.
All holding their breath? Suspension of belief?
Is he eloquent or what?

cupsoftea · 05/11/2008 06:57

He won all the 7 votes in Iowa!

taliac · 05/11/2008 07:04

What a night for the baby to sleep through!

Did I miss much??

(hmmm, 648 messages, suspects she probably did. Goes back to read thread / check news..)

Oh look. Obama landslide. Sounds like it was brilliant.
