Have we not had a discussion about this? I'm surprised.

Seedy, sordid, unfunny little men pad obscene amounts of money to be obscene.

What's your view?

I wonder if they were drunk?

ButterflyBessie · 29/10/2008 18:22

Poor sods, a jape that got out of hand

I hope JR doesn't resign too and that RB gets another job soon

RB already has other jobs.

he's off to the US next week to promote his film with Ricky Gervais.

wintera · 29/10/2008 18:27

Funny you should mention that Dittany its always been a running joke on the show that Russell is very good at making songs up on the spot. He did it every week.

dinny · 29/10/2008 18:28

yeah, RB has many projects

not sure how fair it is RB is taking the rap and resigning

ButterflyBessie · 29/10/2008 18:28

Glad he isn't out of work then

I know that I have made errors of judgement before, fortunately the DM isn't so interested in my life

I liked his song

wintera · 29/10/2008 18:31

He'll be alright. He has got 3 films coming out next year . . Bedtime Stories with Adam Sandler, The Tempest with Helen Mirren and Ben Kingsley, and Get him to the Greek, the prequel or sequel to Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Its JR who needs to worry a bit. Thats probably why Russ has resigned I would imagine.

piratecat · 29/10/2008 18:33

i'veonly just cuaght up with this story. J Ross was in the wrong by stating R B had shagged her. Male bravado/ego AGAIN.

it's a load of boring nonsense.

dinny · 29/10/2008 18:35

there's no way JR wil resign, is there?

Russell Brand seems sadder than I expected him to on his statement, which is quite beautifully delivered, I think.

edam · 29/10/2008 18:57

An interesting tale of how the internet has put more power in the hands of the audience. Pre-WWW, the number of complaints would have been tiny - only those who listened to the show at the time plus maybe in some cases a pressure group.

GivePeasAChance · 29/10/2008 18:59

It is just BBC bashing ( By News Corp, Daily Mail, ITV). And the public support it because JR is paid so much money.

But really, it's not the worst thing that anyone has ever said.

Poor old Georgina has sold her story to the Sun.

EBenes · 29/10/2008 19:03

I hate BBC bashing, I love the BBC. I love their internet side: I love that their pregnancy resources are so dependable (as a pregnant woman I always obsessively check their pages) and community resources are really helpful, including trustable legal advice etc. I love the mad elitism of BBC4 and Radio 4, which may be mostly all too high brow for me but I want to know it's there for people who like that kind of thing. I love CBeebies. I really hate the politicians who have been allowed to talk about them 'learning lessons' and being transparent and all that hypocritical rubbish over one mistake where it's easy to see what went wrong and apologies should have been plenty. Georgina's association with Max Clifford does not inspire faith in her good intentions.

LittleBellaLugosi · 29/10/2008 19:07

I don't think she needs to have any intentions. She didn't cause this furore.

RB has done exactly the right thing, everyone will now feel sorry for him, he has loads of other projects going on, people will feel he has done the right thing and resigning shuts everybody up.

JR otoh, will keep the saga running.

Dottoressa · 29/10/2008 19:09

I loathe JR and RB, and this whole sordid saga just confirms my feelings!

GivePeasAChance · 29/10/2008 19:11

I too love the BBC - and am fine paying a license fee purely so I don't have to watch or listen to adverts. I also happen to think some of what they produce is excellent quality.

And really, anyone who listens to Russell Brand's show would know it is not going to be Jackanory.

Celery · 29/10/2008 19:12

Not read the whole thread, but I'm a bit gutted actually. JR on a friday night and RB on radio 2 on saturday night are/were my two favourite programmes.

EBenes · 29/10/2008 19:12

"I don't think she needs to have any intentions. She didn't cause this furore."

She certainly appears to now, though. She called for their resignations and she's selling her story and she's hired a publicist with a ropey reputation, so that implies she's not done with it.

southeastalien · 29/10/2008 19:15

i really feel for rb in the apology interview.

i like both of their shows, though don't listen to it for long on sat night and agree with givepeasachance it's a manic show.

it's just ridiculous the way this has developed.

fruitstick · 29/10/2008 19:17

I do think it's an interesting development in broadcasting though, as the complaints have not come from listeners but from other members of the public and press.

The show was broadcast on 18th October and received 2 complaints for swearing. Andrew Sach's agent was contacted by the Mail on Sunday for a comment, which was reported the following Sunday (26th). The complaints have escalated since then but none were in response to the actual broadcast. (I'm getting this from the BBC website)

The only outcome is that the BBC licence fee should not be used to pay controversial performers which may possibly cause offence to the general public, rather than the targeted audience. Much like the controversy surrounding Jerry Springer: The Opera was escalated by people who had never seen it.

Andrew Sachs has graciously accepted their unreserved apology, and his are the only feelings that matter here really. Let's hope that's the end of the matter. No doubt Russell will go back to Channel 4 where he belongs.

compo · 29/10/2008 19:18

blimey before all of this I thought RB worked for C4 and E4 and I didn't relaise Andrew Sachs was Manwell and I'd never heard of his graddaughter!

LIZS · 29/10/2008 19:19

"She called for their resignations and she's selling her story and she's hired a publicist with a ropey reputation" - can you blame her really ? She may as well make something out of it now.

Lizzylou · 29/10/2008 19:20

Just caught up with this on "The Sun Online", what a pile of poo, the grandaughter posing with boobs and thighs akimbo, member of "Satanic Sluts" dance troupe, the fact that she is no longer a virgin must be a massive shock to her Grandfather?!

Perhaps Jonathan Ross could donate his salary to Children in Need and we could all carry on as we were?
