Should the Yorkshire Ripper be let out???????????????????????

At the minute, the Yorkshire Ripper is asking to be let out to see is dying sister for the day.

Personally I don't think he should be, he lost every right when he started killing innocent women.

If he can't do the crime, don't do the time.

I'd like to be though that this country being what it is, the thing will get compassionate leave.

thought he was older. my dads a spritly 62yr old. not old at all. sorry.

i know he is an evil man who killed loads of women (all b4 my time i think) but if he is properly flanked by guards/wardens and his sister wants to see him, even just to yell abuse at him, then they should let him out for the day to see her.

I don't think he poses any threat to the public by being let out, supervised, to see his sister.

difficult one...on balance I don't think he should be let out at all, even if it is for something like this. Didn't he recently confess to having murdered 2 other women for which he was never tried ? and also a couple of months ago I'm sure I heard on the radio that he was requesting release or parole or something because ' he hasn't committed a crime for many years and is therefore no danger to the public' - but the only reason he's not committed any crimes is because he's been locked up ! I do believe in compassion, of course, but the scale of his crimes is so huge that IMO he should be granted no liberty at any time. Also, it would turn into a media circus which would not do the sister or her family any favours.

Should not be let out NO NO NO.

northerner · 08/03/2005 15:00

He doesn't pose a threat to the public I agree, but he is in prison serving a life sentence ffs. He's already been out once to see he's dads ashes scattered, and now he's requesting this. Where will it end? To go to her funeral, to visit some old friends, to get his hair done, down the local for a swift half? Lets face it would you want him walking down your street?

He relinqueshed all of his rights the day he murdered his first victim.

DEFINATELY NOT ... NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

fastasleep · 08/03/2005 15:03

My mum was a friend of a survivor of the Yorkshire Ripper (not sure if she was the only survivor, she had some nasty brain-damage and god knows what else done to her) and I think knowing that he was wandering around somewhere would scare the living daylights out of her! But it's his sister who's got the rights as other people have said, if she requested to see him then it's her choice....they're not going to let him out for anything other than funerals or very special circumstances..

Tinker · 08/03/2005 15:05

Exactly fastasleep. He's not going to wandering round, popping into Tescos, getting his nails done.

joash · 08/03/2005 15:19

The point is that as far as I'm concerned, he forfitted his 'rights' to any normal priveledges when he did what he did. IMO This country is far too lenient. We should lock 'em up and leave 'em there!!!!!

I'm with Joash. Absolutely not.

bunny3 · 08/03/2005 20:58

me too. He should never be allowed out except in a coffin.

teabelly · 09/03/2005 11:13

No no no - he's committed crimes and has had his liberty taken away as punishment. He has to deal with the consequenses of that, if he wanted to be able to do what he liked he shouldn't have committed the crimes.

NomDePlume · 09/03/2005 11:14

Of course not. End of
