he is a tad incompetent isnt he?

ImnotMamaGbutsheLovesMe · 02/10/2008 14:09

He paid a friend to sharpen up his image.

A "significant statement on his future" is expected this afternoon.

Is he off?

I can't make up my mind about him...

ImnotMamaGbutsheLovesMe · 02/10/2008 14:13

Nothing yet.

Got News 24 on.

bobthebuddha · 02/10/2008 14:46

he's going. With an armour-plated pension and payoff probably

policywonk · 02/10/2008 14:48

Mmm.

Someone tell me what to think, I'm opinion-free on this one.

I guess there have been some fairly major cock-ups in the Met while he's been in charge - guess he ought to carry the can for that if nothing else. Ronnie Flanagan scares me a bit though.

ImnotMamaGbutsheLovesMe · 02/10/2008 16:32

Just got home and put the tv on. YES!! Though I also think Cressida Dick should be going.

It will be an insult if he goes with a huge pay off and pension. If you resign, why get a pay off? That is for when you are being made redundant.

I think he is an arragant person. Why make an announcement that there is going to be an announcement if you didn't want maximum publicity?

Can you tell I dispise him?

OP posts:
NotCod · 02/10/2008 16:34

abotu time

ImnotMamaGbutsheLovesMe · 02/10/2008 17:22

Hurray for Boris Johnson!!

OP posts:
Upwind · 02/10/2008 17:58

so the shameless goon is gone

LadyMuck · 02/10/2008 18:00

He's "survived" 2 hearings on Stockwell. Does this mean that something else is going to come out in the inquest?

LittleBella · 02/10/2008 18:03

Upwind no, Boris Johnson is still mayor

Blair should have gone ages ago. But I'm a bit uncomfortable that the mayor now appears by default, to have the power to sack the commissioner of the Met unilaterally.

Upwind · 02/10/2008 18:08

LB

I was curious about this so googled for info, it seems that while BJ is getting the credit, Ronnie Flanagan had at least as much influence on the resignation:

"...on Wednesday Sir Ronnie called an urgent meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority, the independent body which oversees the force, to brief its members on fresh allegations that Sir Ian had used Impact Plus to give him advice on his image when he took up his job.

No other company was invited to bid for the £15,000 contract it was claimed, even though Impact Plus had no specialist knowledge of public relations.

Sir Ronnie is understood to have discussed with the MPA the possibility of suspending Sir Ian, which would have made his position untenable.

Later on Wednesday Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, held a meeting with Sir Ian at which he made it clear he had lost confidence in the Met chief and did not feel able to work with him. Mr Johnson, who chairs the MPA, may even have called for a vote of no confidence in Sir Ian at a meeting of the MPA next Monday.

It now appears that Sir Ian decided to quit before he had to face such humiliation.

Home Office sources have claimed Sir Ian displayed "very poor judgement" over the awarding of contracts to Impact Plus. "

I smell a rat.

Upwind · 02/10/2008 18:15

how so spidermama?

I am still sniggering at having just realised that Boris Johnson's initials are BJ

Spidermama · 02/10/2008 22:17

It shouldn't be up to Boris. He's had it in for Blair from the word go. He'll be picking London's transport bosses next.

Upwind · 03/10/2008 07:31

I think that Blair resigned rather than face suspension over the corruption allegations. It just suited both him and Boris to give the latter the credit.
