my mum died of breast cancer to be honest i'm sick of reading all these reasons why she got it. don't believe any of them

Thanks Fio. A much more cheering article. I did not know that a year was the magic number. My mum BF me to 5 months.

DD is 2.1 now but I did breastfeed her until she was 15 months. I am pregnant again (another biggy predicted) and I hope I can have a similar breastfeeding experience again .

This kind of public health is important but it really isn't relevant to individuals. It means that if you had 200 babies half big and half small then statistically one more of your big babies would get cancer than your small ones.

Importantly they looked at cancer at 80. Most people who get it at 80 die with it not of it.

Likewise don't blame your mother for not bf longer - in reality in an individual it is unlikely to have been the reason.

I totally did not mean to give the impression that I blame my Mum for not breastfeeding me for longer The thought never crossed my mind. I know my Mum loved breastfeeding but my dad died suddenly when I was 5 months old and she had to return to work to keep us housed. I admire what she did unreservedly .
