I nearly just barfed at Sarah Brown going on stage first and presenting her own husband. YUKKKKKKK!!!

And then Gordon is just awful. Plain awful.

But what about his record as chancellor - raiding pension funds and selling the country's gold at rock bottom prices. He is obviously highly intelligent so I find it amazing that he seemed to fall for his own 'end of boom'n'bust rubbish! Wouldn't be so bad if he was a proper socialist but 10p saga proved that he isn't.

poppy34 · 24/09/2008 12:16

I feel bit sorry for gordon - he is a genuine intelligent politician -a lot of his troubles are as a result of 10 odd years of govennment (which he played a fair part in). I particularly admire him as he generally DOESN'T drag his family into politics.

Quite like her - although did seem bit cynical as isn't she a PR type so did wonder if finally biten teh bullet to let his wife help?

on another note there is something punchable and lightweight about milliband

poppy34 · 24/09/2008 12:17

mrs th - think you've nailed it - he is an intelligent man with no people sense - fine if you're chancellor and surrounded by treasury types..not so good as pm.

Remember reading somewhere that he used to go/drive everywhere with his headphones on listening to music etc til his wife pointed out this was antisocial....

Upwind · 24/09/2008 12:20

poppy - that would be no people sense AND no economic sense then? So what are his talents?

poppy34 · 24/09/2008 12:29

maybe you need to ask sarah brown about them upwind.. he may be very [ahem] gifted in certain areas...

tonton · 24/09/2008 13:05

Yeay Gordon. And his wife did a great job.

mehgalegs · 24/09/2008 13:11

I, and yes I'll admit it irrelevant, couldn't get past her hideous skirt and too tight top with flabby bra bits combo.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 24/09/2008 17:03

Who advised to her to wear those appalling shiny opaque tights?

TsarChasm · 24/09/2008 17:15

They both come across as incredibly uncomfortable in the job. Strange really as he wanted it so much. I guess you have to be careful what you wish for.

unavailable · 24/09/2008 18:48

I thought it was supreme irony that he boasted about not being "showbiz" and not "parading his children before the media" after just being introduced by his non elected and non politician wife. Yuck. Agree also with the annoyance voiced regarding term "hard working families", but all parties use this.

SilentTerror · 24/09/2008 18:55

Actually,Sarah used to run her own PR agency,so I am sure she knows a thing or two about PR stunts...
Agree about her outfit though...

MrsThierryHenry · 24/09/2008 22:09

Yes, I though Sarah was in PR. I must admit I didn't hear her speech, but good God that kiss on the front pages this morning! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuuucccccccccccccccccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! (that's my intellectual appraisal of the matter)

cringey US style desperation

electra · 26/09/2008 12:39

I found it cringeworthy - actually I agree with Michael Portillo's assessment of it. In the US it's still cringeworthy but par for the course. In the UK it seems very inappropriate and I doubt it will have a positive effect -- people are of such a different mentality here. It didn't come off. I feel sorry for her though - I bet she was pushed into it.
