See here. I'm curious as to why the word 'murder' was used.

Is it just me, or is that all a bit strange?

And why do the father and son look so pleased in the photo?

Poor little thing.

Use of 'murdered' is a bit weird, I agree.

Lol @ the father and son grinning like fools in the picture

UnquietDad · 08/09/2008 12:01

I suspect foul play. Or at least some kind of nefarious porpoise.

Teuch · 08/09/2008 12:07

Is it not enough that we have to be terrified of knife-wielding yoofs and the fact that our biscuit barrell is worth more than our homes?

Now we have to worry about murderous dolphins for whom we hold such affection for?

(grammar has deserted me in my terror)

please delete one 'for' as appropriate!

It's odd that they are grinning, but I think thats' a fisherman thing, stand grinning like an idiot when holding a dead fish/porpoise.

And it doesnt' look like it's 4 ft to me, unless the people are massive.

UnquietDad · 08/09/2008 13:32

Very fishy.

fryalot · 08/09/2008 13:34

fishy?

UnquietDad · 08/09/2008 13:40

Yes, the scale of the offence. One might almost say done up like a kipper. If it's a hoax, people have fallen for it hook, line and sinker.

fryalot · 08/09/2008 15:00

yeah, but fishy?

last time I checked, dolphins, porpoises and whales were all mammals

UnquietDad · 08/09/2008 15:01

All right, I was making a bad joke.

fryalot · 08/09/2008 15:04

aaah, that's what it was!

hecate · 08/09/2008 15:06

Well, it's just language, isn't it?

Murder is just the human term for the deliberate taking of a life, but not for food or in self defence or something, so it makes sense that humans would apply that word to other animals too if the circumstances fit. Does a cat murder a mouse when it tortures it to death for practice? Well, yes, from the human pov, it does. It takes another life on purpose. The cat doesn't see it that way, but the human interpretation is murder. Same with this. A life was taken in an act of violence, the human world calls it murder.

MrsStig · 08/09/2008 16:50

I've been thinking about this on the school run. If a life is taken when not for food then that is murder.

I'm not sure where that leaves canibals.

I think it's a red herring.
