Just listening to this debate on the radio.
I don't think he should be allowed to go.
Any opinions?

No.
He knew the rules. He broke them. He got caught. End of story.

Ladytophamhatt · 03/07/2008 14:36

no.

he cheated.
he broke teh rules

He may have confessed but thats tough shit.

mrsruffallo · 03/07/2008 14:36

There main argument seems to be that we allow convicyts to work once they have served their sentence.
I do not agree, I think for the sake of athletics in general he has to be left out.

the 2 yr ban wasn't worth teh paper it was written on either.

If they take drugs it shoudkl be a life ban IMO

mrsruffallo · 03/07/2008 14:38

Their manin argument
Why does he think he should be an exception? Makes me

Im not sure about this. I always admired Chambers as a great athelete and think that the british athletics has been less interesting without him. However...the residual benefits from the drugs he took are unknown, but some specialists think that improved muscle tone, bone density, stamina may be long lasting, for longer than the time taking the banned substances. So, my heart says yes i would love to see him compete, he has done his time. But my head says no, he cheated, possible retains an unfair advantage, totally disrespectful to 'clean' atheletes.

mrsruffallo · 03/07/2008 14:46

Yes, moopy, I think he had many fans and was ext.talented but that makes most people feel even more let down

Cheats should never be seen to prosper from their actions.

From what I had read previously his team-mates (if they can be called that, I suppose team GB) are non too happy. Neither would I if I followed the rules and someone like him was allowed to compete.

sagacious · 03/07/2008 19:06

Nope he should remain banned

Cheeky fecker

Flashman · 03/07/2008 23:54

No he got caught - did the ban and should be free to continue his running.

Freckle · 04/07/2008 06:54

I think they should change the rules so that if you take drugs you face a lifetime ban. With the current rules only imposing a 2 year ban, some athletes think it's worth the risk to gain from the benefits of taking drugs. The message should be loud and clear - take drugs and you are out for life.

So no he shouldn't be allowed to compete in the Olympics.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 04/07/2008 07:56

I think the problem is that the powers that be need to get their act together wrt the punishment. If the idea is that someone who takes drugs shouldn't run competitively again then they need to ban for life.

Morally he shouldn't run - but I see his point if he's 'served' the ban he was given.

Piffle · 04/07/2008 09:43

No he should not be allowed. But then other countries are complicit in their athletes drug regimes so entire countries should be held accountable where drug use in sport is endemic.
olympics is a big pile of wank now imo

HermanMunster · 04/07/2008 11:10

i don't think he should and nor should Christine Ohuruogu ee though she has been reinstated.

Piffle · 04/07/2008 11:13

christine O never tested positive. Her explanations were backed up and believed.
unlike chambers who knowlingly took performance enhancing drugs.
big diff imo

HermanMunster · 04/07/2008 11:34

well she missed 3 drugs tests and in my mind that should be treated as the same as failing one.fair enough maybe you can explain missing one, but missing 3?
i mean if that's the case chambers could have just skipped the test, taken his ban and been back in the olympics.it means there is nothing forcing athletes who are taking drugs to actually take the test they know they are going to fail.just skip the test and you won't be banned for life.

just my opinion though, i can see why others think she should still be allowed to compete.

Piffle · 04/07/2008 12:16

she is famously scatty...
read through the board reports on her reinstatement.
I was surprised she was let back tbh but her and chambers are different

wannaBe · 04/07/2008 12:17

No.

When he took drugs he knew what the consequences would be if he got caught. He just didn't think he'd get caught did he? But he did. And therefore he must face those consequences.

Mind you I think that more athletes take drugs than don't.
