Seems go be he has taken the stand today but I can’t see any reporting- has anyone seen anything?

There’s been no evidence this morning. Think it resumes as 2 o’clock.

A couple of tabloids now reporting that RB is due to take the stand today

They can’t possibly know, it’s one thing that no-one will know until the moment it happens. So ‘due to give evidence’ can only mean ‘the point at which he might do this is due’.

Ok. I didn't say otherwise.

Ok fine, I could see how someone reading your post would take it to mean ‘he’s going to give evidence today’.

eastegg · 27/10/2026 14:54

Just read the Sky news update. Prosecution will close their case this afternoon and defence will start tomorrow.

A colleagues commented yesterday that the women could possibly be making these allegations up for fame and fortune

where is the logic? How does this trial make them money? I would hardly say there’s a book deal to be had from any of these stories and i cant imagine there is a huge amount of compensation to be claimed

🙄

even more mind boggling are the people who claim he’s being set up by the Government for his claims about big pharma

My sister in law shares the same view as your colleague (or, she adds that if the assaults did happen then we shouldn't blame Brand because he had drug and mental health problems and also it would have been the victims' fault for walking down a path littered with warning signs). After she expressed these views I've never been able to view her the same way ever again, but like you as the trial started I found myself thinking how on earth can anyone peddle the fame and money nonsense? They are literally requesting to stay anonymous (so no fame) and I have yet to hear where anyone makes money in this. In fact I believe one of the complainants overtly repeated that they did not want to have to go to court to give evidence and repeat their story at all due to the distress this has caused.

I've said the same re fame.
We know publicly of one woman getting paid off by AMW, and she still sadly committed suicide. So, yeah, I've no idea why people often say it's for the money, or jumping on the bandwagon 🙈

I do think there may be money to be made in telling their stories (interviews and books) after this trial is over . Probably regardless of the outcome of the trial.
I don think that if the allegations are proven true that drugs and mental health issues mean RB shouldn't be held responsible though.

I disagree. There aren’t any stories to sell. The complainants all had very brief interactions with RB and have said what they were. I hardly think there’s a book deal in ‘he pushed me against a wall and aggressively kissed me. I hardly knew him. It was shit’. I think in the main people who hold this sort of view aren’t even doing the complainants and the trial process the courtesy of actually listening to the reported evidence.

Just been found NOT GUILTY on indecent assault charge

Again, how many victims of such crimes make money out of writing and selling a book?!

I tend to listen to a Spotify podcast before going to bed on this case.

Sorry?

Indecent assault reduced to attempted indecent assault according to the Sky newsfeed. That’s fair enough.

Wonder what that tells us; if anything?

LizzieSiddal · 27/10/2026 16:34

This is from Sky News re the assault:

“Judge reduces indecent assault charge against Brand to attempted indecent assault
After the court hears the four police statements from Russell Brand, the judge tells the jury that separately a charge against the comedian will be changed.
Mr Justice Bennathan says the indecent assault charge against Brand will be reduced to attempted indecent assault at this halfway stage of the trial.
He tells jurors he has concluded "there was insufficient evidence" to support the indecent assault charge and that they should find Brand not guilty of the allegation.
The judge says a charge of attempted indecent assault, relating to the same incident in 2001, has been added to the indictment.
As a reminder, the change relates to an allegation that Brand grabbed a female MTV worker by the arm and tried to drag her into a toilet.
To complete the formalities of the change of charge, the judge chooses one of the jurors - a man sitting at the end of one row - to deliver a not-guilty verdict on the indecent assault count.
Addressing the new charge of attempted indecent assault, and calling it a "slightly artificial process", the judge says: "The defendant Russell Brand has entered a not-guilty plea to this count."
Brand denies all seven charges against him, including rape and sexual assault.”

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 27/10/2026 16:38

Straightforward assault carries a sentence too.... If he grabbed her by the arm and tried to drag her somewhere, surely that is assault? Presumably it put her in fear. He could be sent to prison for six months for that alone.

I don't really quite see how an assault can be attempted assault: either he did or he didn't lay hands on her. And I don't think it has been disputed that he did. What ought to go is "sexual", but assault seems cast-iron.

Yes I was never clear how this was meant to be an indecent assault. It was either just assault, or an attempt to indecently assault which is what he now faces. Nothing indecent about grabbing and pulling an arm, but his intentions about what was to happen next were sexual.

Mamamia35 · 27/10/2026 17:34

The last few minutes of the Times podcast from yesterday touches on charges being amended so I expect they’ll have a lot more detail in the next episode.

Nikita hand and Chanel Miller wrote books of their experiences after high ptofile rape cases,The claimants in the RB case could tell their stories for money. I dont think they shouldnt be able to do so.im just saying it is possible.

I see why Virginia G had a book though. There’s a story spanning years and years. These victims had one awful night. It’s not a book deal

WarriorN · 27/10/2026 18:50

Thanks for the heads up on the times podcast. Very interesting

thebrowncatisback · 27/10/2026 18:59

Im not sure the woman he forcibly kissed and then breathed into her crotch has much of a book

the woman he tried, and failed, to drag into toilets doesn’t have a book in the pipeline

if thwy were making it up for a book, they would have made the stories a bit juicer

mids2019 · 27/10/2026 19:13

What is the prospect of civil litigation either by the current complainants or others? Does this not result often in financial redress?
