This is amongst the most horrendous crimes I have ever read. Poor, poor man.

prtoutside · 21/10/2026 22:46

I wonder if the defendant has a previous criminal history that they’re not allowed to share with the jury? I don’t see how any normal person could do something so unspeakably cruel and evil and then go home and later be heard laughing and joking.

Surely this is murder too, not manslaughter?

That poor, poor man. 😔

Waitingfordoggo · 22/10/2026 08:27

Good question @prtoutside . It’s so very far outside the realms of normal behaviour.

Loomis · 22/10/2026 08:38

It says his cousin was in the car with him at the time, why are they not also being prosecuted??

RageBates · 22/10/2026 08:39

That is definitely murder!
He knew that poor man was there and injured.

Absolutely sick and cruel...how can another human be so wicked, it saddens me that 'people' like that walk amongst us in society.

May the cyclist rest in eternal peace. May his family and loved ones remember him in his best moments.

May the scum that caused this learn what pain and suffering feels like - karma.

Imagine being a passenger in a car and the driver is behaving wrecklessly.
Obviously we don't know the circumstances, but I should imagine she was frantic and desperate too - she broke down the next day. Survivors guilt, difficult family dynamics, he might've also been threatening her "if I stop, you'll go to prison too"...we just don't know but I feel sorry for her also. She was a passenger. If you read the article, it says she had her heads in her hands on CCTV so it sounds like she was distraught also.

No I'm sorry, it's not on. If she had got out the car and called 999 at the time that man's life could have been saved. I don't feel sorry for her at all. She's culpable.

She did go to the police the next day, so probably why.

I think it's one of those situations where she was between a rock and a hard place, potentially.

Maybe her phone was dead. He was driving at 60mph and weaving over the road - she must've been traumatised and terrified too. He might've even lied and said there was nothing there (when he checked)

Without knowing the ins and outs it's hard to tar this woman as culpable. Personally I'm open minded enough to consider that she is likely traumatised too.

Had she been seen on CCTV laughing and smoking a cigarette... I'd feel differently.

EasternStandard · 22/10/2026 09:07

Absolutely horrific. Poor man and his family. Mr Mullins, just sad to read all that.

HobnobsChoice · 22/10/2026 09:15

I knew him professionally and it's been devastating. I used to also live near Stretford Grammar and he really did change that school for the better. It's very hard on the school commitments when a loved teacher dies, to die in such a horrendous way is incredibly distressing

Maomee · 21/10/2026 19:55

Absolutely horrifying, no one should have to die that way..
I live in Manchester and there are some utter maniacs behind the wheel here.

Not just Manchester I'm afraid. I deeply dislike driving any distance these days with the shocking standards on the roads

Debatingafuture · 22/10/2026 09:37

I’m pretty stoic about most things but I cannot wrap my head around this. To get out, find him there and carry on is just… horrific. That is murder.

BobTheTeckel · 22/10/2026 09:50

The driver is a monster, and think the moment he drove on knowing Mr Mullins was under his car it became murder. I hope they find Richardson guilty of that charge, otherwise he'll likely serve very little time for committing such a horrendous crime.

Rabarbarasulta · 22/10/2026 09:51

@CarbonelKitten @DancingPhantom he was also my DC's headmaster. Such a good and dedicated man. The details of what he went through are so horrendous I had to stop reading. His poor family, friends and colleagues must be in agony.
The passenger I also have no sympathy for, regardless of being shocked or frozen she had opportunities to stop this or to tell someone sooner and she did not.

GetThatFaceOff · 21/10/2026 19:01

It's horrendous. My brother (21) died in the exact same way, in the 1970s. I was with him and saw the whole thing.

I’m so sorry

The only thing she did wrong was not calling the police as soon as possible.

Other than that, she notified the driver, gave her account of the events and was visibly upset afterwards. She hasn’t commîtes any crime and she’s doing the right thing now in not protecting the killer.

Done a deal to give evidence for the prosecution?

The driver stopped for 90 seconds, tried to pull him off the car and when he couldn’t he started driving again. Just awful.

Oh god. What kind of fool does that.

Ohnobackagain · 22/10/2026 10:16

This is utterly horrific @LarkAscendingRose How does his family move on knowing how he suffered such a slow, frightening and painful death? The poor man, what must have been going through his mind? And his family reliving that? And going through the trial? The jury, the police, the motorcyclist, the wider community. I’m absolutely stunned by what that driver knowingly did. Just awful.

CarbonelKitten · 22/10/2026 11:28

Daygloboo · 22/10/2026 10:11

I would say psychopath rather than fool.

It's the most awful thing I've ever read. Devastating.

I disagree

She sounds like a normal person who was most likely in shock and froze with the horror of it.

That's a normal reaction, all these people saying they would have got out of the car and done x or y. In reality few people have the presence of mind to react how you think they should.

She did call the police the next day, most likely in the knowledge that she wouldn't be looked on favourably with the delay, but it is completely understandable

That "only thing" meant that he died when potentially his life could have been saved.

Loomis · 22/10/2026 12:25

We don’t know that he could have been saved. We don’t know how killer would have reacted. From what I understand the call to police was within a day of the incident.

There is no point blaming the witness, she wasn’t ultimately responsible for the murder and her testimony is probably quite strong evidence.

Loomis · 22/10/2026 13:10

If the witness in the car was another bloke I can almost guarantee there would be a lot less sympathy on here for them.

All the blame is with the awful man driving the car but the witness is certainly not blameLESS.
