Custodial sentences. Previous non custodial sentences have been overturned.

Trial judge, Judge Nicholas Rowland, had "erred in his assessment of the seriousness of the offences".

Four fucking years for two (minus 231 curfew days) and no change for the third.

Whoopee-do 🙄

Badbadbunny · 02/07/2026 19:45

Still nowhere near enough, but at least it's something. Let's hope the message starts getting through to out of touch politicians and judges.

Iris1976 · 02/07/2026 19:53

So sad these young girls have such paltry justice even after appeal.

Nope, apparently the politicians are even more out of touch. From the Telegraph, possibly 6 days ago:

David Lammy, the Justice Secretary, is to implement legal changes that will see criminals accused of serious offences released early for the first time as part of Government efforts to prevent jails from running out of space.

They include prisoners convicted of manslaughter, rape, GBH and sex offences who will be eligible for release halfway through their sentences rather than serving the current tariff of two-thirds of their sentence.

Presumably Labour have put plans in place to build new prisons so that this stupidity of early release is only a short term temporary measure?

Good but not enough

WhatHappenedToYourFurnitureCuz · 02/07/2026 20:02

I was one of the people who requested the sentencing be reviewed, thanks to an MN thread at the time. At least it had some sort of impact.

Backstop · 02/07/2026 20:02

What was the review said something h to the effect of the initial judge forgetting to account for the vulnerability and upset of the victims. That man should never sentence anyone involved in crime against women and girls. Absolutely vile man compounding the appalling experiences of those girls.

The judge should never set foot in a courtroom ever again - he's clearly incompetent.

I was just looking for a thread on this.

Some detention but not enough IMHO. And they have the audacity to appeal it!

AnyDayNowChuckJacksonNSoul · 03/07/2026 05:53

It should never have been anything but custodial.
The time off for curfew is a bad joke and would have liked a few more years added.

No wonder the girls families were upset and the way they've been treated.

welshgirl2025 · 03/07/2026 06:23

The Judge should be sacked. If he cant understand the seriousness of the offence god help us. So many judges do not live in the real world its frightening. What those poor girls were through was horrific and to be let down by the justice system is unforgiveable.
