I really don't believe them or give a damn whilst the rich are flying around in their private jets however many times a month. I'm coming to the conclusion that we might be being played.

Also, all these data centres that are being built apparently put out a lot of heat into the atmosphere, as well as using a lot of water so.......🤷🏼‍♀️

Are we really getting the truth? Either the climate and resources are at risk or they're not. At the moment we have Schrodingers climate, so I'll give it a bit more time before I decide.

I think the climate is in peril but our lifespans are too short to appreciate the real changes we are seeing.

The report is so terrifying and even if the UK was 100% green it would not make one iota of difference. I think the world wars accelerated the damage and you are right about the data centres

The science is clear. We are at risk. Some reports overstate the risk but there is a risk. The report by the security services is said to be a "reasonable worst case scenario", so it is almost certainly overstating the risk. It is unlikely to be as bad as this report suggests. But, unless we address global warming, there will be more extreme weather, water scarcity, crop failures, etc.

Private jets are a small but growing contributor to climate change. We need the ultra rich to cut back on their use or find a way to make private jets less polluting.

Data centres are also a problem. They currently account for around 1% of greenhouse gas emissions and this is projected to rise due to the surge in AI. It is unlikely the demand for data centres will reduce, so we need to find a way to make them more energy efficient and less polluting.

Note that the movements arguing that there is no climate crisis are headed or backed by the ultra rich who benefit from things continuing as they are today, not by scientists. That should tell you everything you need to know.

The risk is real. Huge datacentres are a significant problem but the big issue is that we live in a capitalist society where short term profit is everything. So longer term risks, like climate change, are put off to allow a small number of rich people to get even richer.

This is, of course, why a lot of the climate change denialism is funded by fossil fuel companies and others who see awareness of the actual problems as a threat to their short term profits.
