If offered would you accompany the police at 3AM for a fraud raid. Like getting to go in the house and watch them smash the door in? Maybe even have a go at chainsawing the door haha

All this talk of tasers, I could really do with one at work. Do you think the police would let me borrow one for a week? Or maybe when apps are going on police raids, perhaps you could offer to hold an officer’s taser whilst they’re using the chainsaw, then post the taser to me? (Don’t send it by Evri though)

Watch this. I don’t think you would want one.

Well its nearly 3am, and I'm still up, can I use the battering ram or chainsaw? Perhaps I can shout "POLICE DON'T MOVE"

On second thoughts, I'll go and have a shower. Night then.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 25/02/2026 03:00

DH used to do this for a living. He’s got some great stories.

What sort of crimes. Can you share one of them?

wonder what the girlfriends/wife’s reaction would be as the man is getting nicked

I've witnessed such a scene.
The woman ran upstairs and was mostly in the bathroom. Being sick.
And the child's computer was taken with exam prep on it. Among other things seized.
I wouldn't want to be in on such an event again.
Especially as it was a very minor offence.
Nothing against the person or sexual.
Unlicensed software.
The lead officer was a little disappointed that she didn't have to break the door down.

All sorts. He was a member of the task force way back in the 80s. Drugs, stolen goods, robbery. They basically had to turn up at the crack of dawn and surprise the buggers. Wives/girlfriends sometimes had to be restrained from attacking the coppers!

What crime was this for? How did they get in if they didn’t smash the door

Do you get paid for it? If do, then yes, 😁

Yes!!!

My ds is a swimmer so early starts and we walk whilst they swim (5am!)

We stumbled across the police with battering ram all ready for a raid so wandered a little further on to observe 👀

bloodredfeaturewall · 25/02/2026 07:43

it's not fun being on the other end.

we were woken once at 5am, door smashed (we slept through the knocking first).

turned out they were looking to arrest a previous tennant of the house who was wanted for an extremely serious crime.
and btw, police don't pay for damage to property. we had to get a new door, including casing as it was totally busted.

What is your role at the raids? Do you do fraud ones or just drugs? What is their reaction usually like

I’m a journalist so I get to report the whole thing. Sometimes they recognise me as I’m a court reporter so have ‘met’ them before but bizarrely they always seem to think I’m one of ‘them’ so they’re quite nice to me 😅

gosh that must have been pretty scary!

As a PP said it's definitely not fun being on the other side. My house was raided several times as a child (my dad was well known to the police for theft and violence).
I know it was the late 80's/early 90's so a different time but despite knowing my dad was abusive and violent to my mum and me/my siblings, the police were rough, rude and there was no care shown for the fact that there were lots of very young children in the house. We had a lot of our stuff unnecessarily damaged. There was an attitude of my dad was scum so the whole family must be scum.
I don't really understand the glee on this thread. One of my siblings has ptsd from our house being raided. It can be traumatic.

I know someone that happened to. It is no laughing matter.

I'm actually finding the glee on this thread quite disturbing.

I've been in flats on the recieving end not early morning but daytime raids.Think it's happened 3times got nicked once because I'd bought a bag of speed and a bit of hash earlier that day.
£50 fine for each charge.

FantasyFoodhall · 26/02/2026 03:18

Well it’s 3.15 in the morning but quite honestly if I were going to be breaking down doors I think
I’d rather be doing some crime. Maybe in a bank, safe cracking. Still balaclavas though obviously
