Official portrait of The King.

Apparently there has only been a 30% take up by public bodies of the offer of a free portrait of The King- a £2M project spearheaded by Oliver Dowden. Anyone got any ideas why?

I keep forgetting we even have a king tbh 😂.

Probably because it's 2025, not 1955.

Is it that red one with the butterfly? I can imagine that would be difficult to live with.

Great comment

Surprised it's that high.
Just because something is free, doesn't mean you want it.

Not surprised at all. Surprised it’s that high if anything. More and more people see the monarchy is an outdated concept, a bunch of free-loaders, and are either not interested or actively republican in their views.

Shame about putting rhe head of State on display? Or its nobodys job to do it so nobody has done it?

And if its an artwork its with a cash value of 1p it a fixed asset and cost money to hold as it should be revalued in case the <un-named> artist becomes famous?

Parksinyork · 17/08/2025 14:11

Some thing given for free doesn’t mean there isn’t a cost to the reciever.

LIZS · 10/09/2025 08:41

And a lot of organisations no longer have premises to display or store one, due to remote working.

If it’s the one that makes him look like he is emerging from a red bubble bath I think it’s quite obvious why!
