VAT on private healthcare?

Neil Kinnock has an idea for Rachel Reeves. Putting Vat on private healthcare would raise 2 billion pounds a year which could improve the NHS.

I have my doubts about this helping unless it's ring fenced for the NHS.

He's also said that anyone with assets of ten million pounds plus should pay 2% tax on it.

It's hardly a luxury anymore. Plenty of people pay for treatment they can't afford, simply because the wait on the NHS is untenable.
I have a bupa plan. Last winter when I ran out of money I turned the heating off rather than cancel my health insurance.
Politics of envy again from Labour. Same as with the schools, and that went well for them.

Exactly. The amount that our health insurance premiums are increasing year on year does genuinely worry me. I’d sacrifice our home and downsize though before considering cancelling it. The NHS just cannot be relied on anymore.

The NHS just cannot be relied on anymore.

It does very well for genuinely urgent care. From diagnosis to surgery in six weeks is pretty damn good if you have cancer.

Except in many cases this timescale is far from the reality. I’ve treated patients in recent years who quite literally would’ve died or had a far worse outcome had they not sought more timely private care.

Our health plan price increases are staggering the last three years. The bloody aussies buying out Spire perhaps.

Honestly its better they just started charging every other. No more free NHS. Charge ppl for doctors appts to stop idiots taking them up uneccessarily.

Need some sort of European system where its part pay part insurance.
