She died because unbeknownst to him, she clung onto the door of his accelerating car.
I don't understand how you think it Is murder??

YouWillFindMeInTheGarden · 16/05/2025 00:05

I don’t understand why you would think it’s murder either..

JaneJeffer · 16/05/2025 00:53

As if he didn’t know she was holding onto the door

I don't think it is murder but it has to be manslaughter or causing death by dangerous or reckless driving.
Actions seem excessive by both parties but not sure how he didn't realise she was hanging on to the door.

RhannionKPSS · 16/05/2025 01:16

Poor woman and her poor family, what a awful man

GravyBoatWars · 16/05/2025 02:04

Because it very obviously didn't fit any criteria for murder and he wasn't charged with causing her death at all.

They argued, he got in his car to leave so they could cool off. She jumped on top of the bonnet of his car as he drove off and laid there to try to stop him leaving - he continued to drive at about 20mph for 6 seconds instead of stopping immediately. Then he stopped the car, she jumped off the bonnet and as he started to drive off she opened the passenger door to climb in after him. He reached over and shut it, then drove off. These parts were what he was charged with and pled guilty to - not stopping immediately when she jumped on the bonnet and accelerating while she was standing so close to the car.

She then grabbed onto the outside of the moving car and ran alongside it 2 seconds before tripping - this part was captured on CCTV. He knew she was next to the car because of what had gone on but couldn't see that she had decided to grab on. When she tripped she fell partly under the car and was hit. He immediately stopped, called for help, and tried to administer aid until the ambulance got there.

It's absolutely tragic, particularly for their children. But it wasn't murder, it was an accident that came from two adults who let their anger make them act recklessly.

If the sexes were reversed and a woman was trying to flee an argument with her husband while he tried to physically stop her would you want her really charged for his murder?

Renabrook · 16/05/2025 02:12

I presume the courts dont go with "yeah but surely it is murder because well I think it is" same as 'they are guilty as I think they have shifty eyes'' doesn't cut it either by jury's I presume?

YouWillFindMeInTheGarden · 16/05/2025 06:02

I agree with the 2 posts above! He’s not been charged with murder because it wasn’t murder

I expect it all happened quickly as well

whynotmereally · 16/05/2025 06:07

I agree , he knew she was next to the car but he didn’t know she was holding on to it. Or that she would trip. He deserved to be charged with dangerous driving or similar which he has been.

Sugargliderwombat · 16/05/2025 06:28

unbeknownst to you, your wife held onto the car as you accelerated down the street

Sounds to me like - He was trying to drive away and she was opening the door and holding onto the bonnet. He stopped both times. Then he drove not knowing she was still holding onto the car. I don't understand how that would be murder?

brettsalanger · 16/05/2025 06:48

Flip the roles here.
if I was trying to drive away and my husband jumped on the bonnet and tried to open the door whilst I was driving away. I would be slamming down on the accelerator.

it’s sad she lost her life, but I can’t see how it’s murder.

GoldLash · 16/05/2025 06:51

It’s clearly not murder

MyUmberSeal · 16/05/2025 06:52

‘How is this not murder’….
Because it’s very clearly not murder.

Sad though. But not murder by any stretch.

As if he didn’t know she was holding onto the door

Interesting that you know more than the police and the prosecution, who accepted that he did not know she was holding onto the door. Perhaps we shouldn't bother with little things like evidence.

As others have said, this was very clearly not murder.
