Astonishingly, he said, police congratulated him on what he had done. 'They are men and know what honour is,' he said.

Oh I read that too, Tink and it was horrible. Worse still that he is free and his wife is in hiding.

Did you read the article about Yemeni women too? That was a pretty awful read.

Tinker · 11/05/2008 19:51

Not read the Yemeni story yet but was looking at the photo of them "choosing", yet another, disguising outfit from the market

I just felt helpless and thought where do you start to convince/persuade people that what he's done is wrong, completely wrong. She was lovely as well

warthog · 11/05/2008 19:53

it's a human rights abuse. disgusting.

nickytwotimes · 11/05/2008 19:54

I read both the articles. So saddened. Makes me feel guilty for all my silly, petty woes.

tribpot · 11/05/2008 19:55

What a tragic loss

cyteen · 11/05/2008 19:58

Yay for woman-hating

tribpot · 11/05/2008 20:03

Can anyone post a link to the other article?

themoon66 · 11/05/2008 20:16

Have you got a link to the Yemeni women story?

When I read things about 'honour' killings my DD's face always pops into my head

MargaretMountford · 11/05/2008 20:17

vile story - was very shocked

Quattrocento · 11/05/2008 20:18

yemen story here

expatinscotland · 11/05/2008 20:22

that is so far beyond chilling and disgusting it's hard to believe it is real, though it is.

as the mother of two daughters, i cannot comprehend a world in which this is considered permissable.

i hope Rand is in a much, much better place.

FranSanDisco · 11/05/2008 20:23

I read both stories The fact the brothers joined in when the mother called them to help Rand(the dd) disturbed me more. I could perhaps excuse the father as mad up til then. She had a crush on this soldier than was thought to be unreciprocated but she died because she had been seen talking to him

berolina · 11/05/2008 20:25

I read this I am speechlesswith admiration for the mother for leaving her daughter's murderer at great risk to her own safety

bravissimo · 11/05/2008 21:47

Oh my god! i can't believe that father has no remorse at all, it's truly sickening.
