Don't see a post so apologies if there is one.

Things are getting scary now...

Do you mean this?

https://metro.co.uk/2024/11/22/us-embassy-london-lockdown-armed-police-swoop-security-alert-22043428/

And this?

https://metro.co.uk/2024/11/22/gatwick-airport-evacuated-police-incident-22044995/?ico=more_text_links

Two security incidents - presumably you think they're linked and part of something bigger? Or is it something else that's worrying you?

WDTABNONONO · 22/11/2024 11:27

Apologies registered blind so was hard to find -

Thank you.--

Nothing terrible has actually happened though. No injuries, no damage at the moment. A suspicious package at the embassy, and a security alert at the airport. Which are being handled appropriately.

WDTABNONONO · 22/11/2024 11:46

Agreed - but the alert has been raised to Gold so it's clearly going to have to be something we need to keep a close eye on.

If you're paid to work in airport security, then I guess.

Scary for who?

Useofstirm · 22/11/2024 12:05

'We' who's 'we'

mitogoshigg · 22/11/2024 12:05

Airports are evacuated fairly regularly, usually because people leave things lying around. Embassies are always on high alert. I wouldn't read anything into either

SilenceInside · 22/11/2024 12:06

This is the airport security, the police and any other agencies doing their jobs properly and keeping people safe. It is not a situation to get alarmed or worried about. The security services probably intercept many situations before they become public that we never know about. This is inconvenient for the public, but not something that has actually caused any injuries, deaths or destruction.

Losingthetimber · 22/11/2024 12:13

Is this your job op? Is that why you’re being asked to keep a close eye on it?

I think for us as the general public, the authorities are on top of it, neither suspicious package is confirmed as a bomb and neither confirmed as linked.

i get the anxiety though when it’s the day job.

needsomewarmsunshine · 22/11/2024 12:28

Apart from trying to terrify the anxious MNers on here, I'd stfu about this OP and stop making something out of relatively nothing.
These suspious packages /incidents occur more than we know about or actually reported.
I have relative working at Gatwick in security, she tells me it's more common than people realise.

StillAtTheRestaurant · 22/11/2024 12:31

Glasgow bus station was evacuated the other day because of a suspicious package, if you want to add that to your evidence board OP. 🤪

Jenasaurus · 22/11/2024 13:52

I feel sorry for the Op, this is in the news and this topic is for discussing the news so she has every right to want to talk about it here.

I understand having worked at Gatwick myself in the past how a lot of these alerts are picked up and no one knows about them, its just this has reached BBC news so for the media to deem it newsworthy I don't see why it cant be discussed on here too.

at a guess the intelligence services will cover the official story with the cover version for the public etc

Pomped · 22/11/2024 14:58

Apparently Gatwick is open again now but to be closed for c5 hours is clearly not just a stray pair of nail scissors.

RisingSunn · 22/11/2024 15:06

There is no need to be so rude to the OP.

Not everyone wants to bury their heads in the sand, have a cup of tea and pretend everything is ‘normal’.

There was actually a controlled explosion at the US Embassy - so of course OP is within their right to discuss/question things.

So they should.

No point in letting the villains know how they were thwarted, is there?

Wherethewildthingsfart · 22/11/2024 15:11

@WDTABNONONO ignore rude posters, they are just bored bullies.

I'll admit after watching x files, and then the show spooks, it's a godsend that the public are kept zzz rather than awake to the true projects or villains of the world etc

We do need coverups, misinformation and secrets,

Mumsnet is a nest of vipers again.today. It reallly gives women a bad name. I hardly ever see replies like this on Reddit.

Thornrose · 22/11/2024 15:19

Honestly, some people are so unnecessarily rude!

Moonlightstars · 22/11/2024 15:19

My school was evacuated, the whole school for 2 hours. If you want to worry about that too?
It was in 1987 and I still had to do double maths but still!

Shakingreasons · 22/11/2024 15:43

I’m sorry but the op’s post deserves short shrift. She didn’t ask to discuss anything sensibly she wrote two random events in her title with no explanation and then followed it up with ‘it’s getting scary now.’ This is just designed to make people anxious. You’re all fools if you don’t think there are foreign operatives posting things like this on forums. Information is the war now.
