What a load of wank

chocolatemummy · 26/04/2008 21:32

think lots of 30 something parents are, even with both parents working, Thank god my dd has got into our first choice very good state primary school for this sep

Remotew · 26/04/2008 21:32

This article is rubbish. Are these real people. I too would like a nice weekend read but just cannot find a paper worth the couple of quid.

expatinscotland · 26/04/2008 21:34

i give up on all these papers.

fuck it.

every sunday we're walking down to the coffee shop and taking in the crack.

a huge ol' pot of coffee's only £2.50 and the crack's far better than any Sunday paper.

God, the Torygraph has gone downhill. Their take on the Coping Classes was quite good at the beginning of the year, but this is really plumbing new depths. "She won't remember if I visit - because its too expensive to fill the Mondeo" ???? FGS. Almost drives one to the Indy, where such drivel is expected.

chocolatemummy · 26/04/2008 21:34

lol@lilliput

FairyMum · 26/04/2008 21:35

"Hannah is a full-time mother, and recently decided to home-educate the children, until Graham pointed out the flat was too small for three desks."

Just make them hot-desk Hannah!

zippitippitoes · 26/04/2008 21:36

i thimk i could write more interesting stuff it isnt even funny just immature and trite

expatinscotland · 26/04/2008 21:36

tray it in the living room, hannah.

PinkTulips · 26/04/2008 21:36

i can't get work as can't afford childcare

dp is doing a course as he has been out of work for almost 3 years and is getting nowhere, however him doing the course leaves us about 50 quid a week worse off

we have no overdraft or credit cards so when we have no money we literally have no money

we live in the country and spend 60/80 euros a week on petrol, 200 a month on oil for heating (which we hardly run as we can't afford more), elec bills are paid when the next one comes in/they start askig for their money

if someone pays an unplanned visit we literally have no food to feed them as our shops are so carefully planned

all ds's clothes are hand me downs from very kind friends of ours and dd hasn't had clothes since last summer

we live in an unfurnished house to save on rent and the only furniture we have is borrowed from parents or paid for by family

i own one pair of pants and about 3 wearable tops

and you know what, we're actually doing better than this time last year

Blandmum · 26/04/2008 21:45

a wise friend once told me that if you couldn't say what a pint of milk and a loaf of bread cost you were not poor.

I've been poor, I'm not now [thanking fates emoicon]

Remotew · 26/04/2008 21:54

MB. It was only today that I looked at the price of milk. 83p Not sure what a loaf of bread is but will look next time. Think I'm feeling the pinch.

FairyMum · 26/04/2008 21:56

Or the other way around MB

The weathiest people I know are very money-aware and even cut coupons out of papers to save 10 pence on an item....

Remotew · 26/04/2008 22:00

Look after then pennies and the pounds will look after themselves. So I've heard.

bozza · 26/04/2008 22:05

A pint of milk is NOT 83p. I am not poor (nor rich) but i pay my milkman (over the odds but local milk, local economy blah de) 44p a pint.

chocolatespiders · 26/04/2008 22:13

i bought a pint off milkman the other morning it was 54p...

Remotew · 26/04/2008 22:18

I didnt mean for a pint. It was for a carton 1.136 litre (just checked the fridge).

Think a small wholemeal loaf is around 95p.

southeastastra · 26/04/2008 22:18

the city of london creams off all the profits

IorekByrnison · 26/04/2008 22:33

Funnily enough the one poor they didn't mention was piss-poor, and that was one piss-poor article.

UnquietDad · 26/04/2008 22:35

"So what sort of week have you had? A good one, probably - if you don't have a mortgage. Or a car. Or school fees to pay."

Let's play "Guess the fucking newspaper"

Because SOOOO many people have school fees, darling, don't they?

UnquietDad · 26/04/2008 22:36

"Richard and Belinda are in their late 50s and live in a fabulous converted mill in Buckinghamshire worth £800,000."

And will be first against the wall when the revolution comes.

QuintessentialShadows · 26/04/2008 22:44

Tesco wholemeal loaf has recently gone up from 85 pence to 1.20. I usually buy Cravendale on offer, 2 x 2l for £1.40.

But I am not poor, just extremely careful with how I spend my money. Stingy, me.

Remotew · 26/04/2008 22:45

Yes, Unquietdad I got to that point then stopped reading the stupid fecking article.

tribpot · 26/04/2008 22:46

"Not since the siege of Leningrad have so many felt so trapped"!!!

Yes, this is exactly like that.
