All you gits with your hot tubs, swimming pools and massive gardens. They have you in their sights 🫵🏻

Is this true, or is it like the cheese tax joke? (not funny imo, I nearly had a heart attack, probably due to excessive cheese consumption.) Not that I have a swimming pool, but I do like a nice long, hot, deep, bath.

I can't find any evidence for this. Do you have a link?

OhmygodDont · 28/09/2024 16:58

Oh god please no. I just emptied the pool
to refill and the was planning more trees in my orchard 🥲

Really? A credible link would be useful @EvangelicalAboutButteredToast

Last year our water company switched everyone over to metered water so surely this is already the case. If you have a huge swimming pool you will be paying more. I don't think this is particularly anything to do with any political party.

The idea would be a premium on water used for things like swimming pools/hot tubs/large sprinkler systems (so large gardens that are watered a lot), not just paying more because you're using more, but that water actually costing more. That money would then be used to lower bills for those on a social tariff. It's something Ofwat has called for in the past.

The Mail says labour are considering something along those lines. I've no idea if it's accurate though.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 28/09/2024 17:18

This is something I actually agree with.

If the Mail are accurate on a Labour post I'd be surprised.

But in this case I don't care anyway as it's actually something I could get on board with.

As long as they charge themselves for not fixing water leaks for days on end

Exactly. Until the water companies fix their leaks and stop dumping sewage into our waterways they can do one.

Charging a few customers for having a hot tub or pool is a joke (I have neither by the way). It’s always us end users who get stung. Never the companies themselves.

How would they know what the water was used for? We use above average amount of water, but no pool or hot tub. Biggish garden, and restrict use of a sprinkler and have about 15 water butts, so do what we can to reduce water usage.
