Not to mention that one of the main characteristics of being a heroin addict, is that you can't stop doing heroin and therefore hardly likely that you would just stop doing it because of family court proceedings.
One of the things I found most difficult as an american living in the uk was that I often felt that nothing was left up to my discretion as an intelligent reasonable human being. And if one (like me) didn't fit into the predetermined categories, life could be really difficult. Surely the most reasonable thing to do would be to make decisions based on the individual case. Every child and every mother is different. At 11 weeks I could have bf my ds anywhere without him causing trouble to anyone. However, I wouldn't have dreamed of bringing my dd at the same age into a meeting. However, at the same time, I couldn't have left my ds for more than a few hours at 11 weeks because he fed so often, but dd only fed every 4 or 5 hours and therefore could have been left. As it happens, I had to testify in magistrates court as a witness to a crime a few months after ds was born. They were very accommodating and let me sit down while testifying. Dh kept ds outside in the hallway and I'm sure if the proceedings had lasted any length of time, or if ds became distressed, they would have let me take a break to feed ds.
