oh I didn't know that. She was an excellent campaigner

very sad, was wonderful friend to my parents for many years and proved herself time and time again to be the most loyal and supportive friend through some very difficult times. she was a marvelous character and a fantastic politician. RIP Gwyneth , we'll miss you!

Oh, I didn't know that. She was my MP.
Very sad.

Yes, I had no idea she was as old as 77, because she was so active and involved - often heard her being cogent and wise on Today in the morning.

A toast to Gwyneth (raises tea)

suzywong · 18/04/2008 10:58

yes, RIP and condolences to her family
she was the local MP when I was small. I remember one of my friend's fathers showing me a leaflet with her face on it and telling me to go and tell my mum and dad to vote for her. So they did.

She put in a lot of years of service. And I'll be they don't make them like her anymore

lovecat · 18/04/2008 15:01

RIP - she was wonderful

policywonk · 18/04/2008 15:07

Was she the one on the transport select committee of whom all senior politicians were terrified? She seemed great. Hope there are some younger MPs coming through who will be as fearless.

gio71 · 18/04/2008 15:19

yes that's the one. she was great, just shot these junior spin types down in flames with 1 remark or look. thing that was clear as well was that she had respect and liking from all sides of the house

LittleBella · 18/04/2008 20:16

She was marvellous. RIP.

She probably died of shock that Gordon is about to drop the 10% tax rate. Can any one tell me what the Labour party is playing at? They will be slaughtered at the polls, surely - it's like the Tories outlawing the Church of England or something. Talk about political suicide! It will keep more people in the poverty trap for a start.

edam · 19/04/2008 19:09

she was fantastic. Do you remember when Tony and his crowd of boy wonders tried to have her removed as chair of the transport committee? He didn't have a snowball's chance in hell up against Dunwoody!

gio71 · 20/04/2008 08:13

some great dunwoody quotes here

marina · 20/04/2008 08:16

Ah, she was a true maverick. I was in firm disagreement with some of her Members' Interests though - she was an ardent supporter of the fur trade
Still, RIP Gwyneth, they don't allow interesting characters like you into the Labour Party any more.
