For the first time ever have posted on their comments page on their website along with others voicing their shame and disgust about the way our soldiers are treated.

What is wrong with our government that we cant pay tribute to these men and women who get paid a feckin pittance to fight for their country and risk their lives.

I hope someone up top will wake up and give them the recognition they deserve

and the fact that Kerry Katona and Naomi Campbell get more posts on 'in the news' than this just confirms the general apathy of the british public

It showed pics of canadian soldiers who lost their lives being transported through canada with police closing roads and saluting the hearses as they went past, with soldiers and public watching and paying respect to the dead.
Then showed the same in the UK with our repatriated soldiers' hearses being stuck in traffic because police refused to close roads and the public being none the wiser.

Why arent we giving these men and women the respect they deserve, the government and police force should be shamed like this by the media until something changes

I have to hold my hands up and say I am one of the ignorant who knows little about our troops and how many have dies what conditions they are operating in etc.I don't agree with war esp this one but they do deserve respect and a dignified return

noddy I know very little about it too. My best friend serves in the army and I know they dont get what they deserve in so many ways. I understand many people dont agree with the war but agree with you that despite that we should still be supporting our forces in the very dangerous job they undertake on a daily basis for crap money and crap living conditions.

Um, not sure what I think about this tbh. Are you bothered that hearses are stuck in traffic? Because generally I think people should respect hearses and let them through, not cut them up etc. etc. - there was a thread about this a while ago. But I'm not sure I'm in favour of special treatment for the forces. Sorry, but all dead people are someone's son/father/daughter/mother etc. etc.

I don't think it's terribly British, in a way, to have homecoming parades or whatever. And could tip over into jingoism.

I do feel terribly sorry for anyone who loses family or friends in Afghanistan or Iraq but also feel sorry for civilians, IYKWIM. And I feel sorry that the forces have been used by Tony sodding Blair to crawl up Bush's behind. They've been betrayed by the politicians IMO.

lol at "Our forces" youll eb talkgin abotu "veterans " soon

littlelapin I think a lot of the general public have huge respect for what your dh does.
Just the government dont, but hey shouldnt we be used to that by now!

And I'm sorry edam but I still believe that servicemen and women who lose their lives on duty should be given some respect. I understand what youre saying about every hearse carrying someones brother/sister/father etc.
But these people risk their lives every day for 'our' country. We may not agree with the war but what they do is commendable IMHO
