Blimey. At least people are being nice about it, rather than demonising her. Worrying that her dad doesn't want to check whether everything's OK internally, though.

it's fairly amazing that all 4 eyes, 2 noses and 2 mouths work though isn't it?

I think maybe the parents don't understand the tests and are a little scared to be honest

Oh, poor child. Just hope that the doctors fears of other complications are unfounded. Seems a little unlikely though

Monkeytrousers · 10/04/2008 20:59

It happens when one twin dies in utero and is absorbed into the surviving one I think - but is not totally absorded obvioulsy.

It shows how different cultures accept a completely different thing and how they embrace rasther than outcasting. It reminds me of the little girl that had extra arms and legs from a parsitic twin, (documentary's words)

I am sure if the CT scan was free he would probably welcomed the suggestion. Health care costs a lot in India. One fee for all, even in a state hosptial just to be seen. For me 100 rupees (£10) was nothing. But it means that the poorest dont get health care as they have to weigh up if they actually can afford it.

amytheearwaxbanisher · 10/04/2008 21:39

poor child at least she is being treated well

Monkeytrousers · 10/04/2008 21:53

I wouldn't call this acceptance at all. Freal show more like. Not that there is anything wrong with that to some in the disablity movement.

I hope public opinion doesn't turn against her. I don't think that there is much of a jump from being worshipped to being demonised.

I do wonder what other medical problems the baby might have.

I really hope that her and her parents can have a relatively normal life.

cantmakemymindup · 11/04/2008 08:55

Freak show called worship what better way to have an excuse to go and gawp. Those programmes on the TV are just as bad, i suppose that these days the people with the attention are getting the money - although you have to question the motives of parents allowing all these people to see their child when they won't allow proper medical help.
Oh I don't know the culture is different the medical set up is different if it was this country they would have sold an exclusive to TV and newspapers syndicated accross the world.

I think the paretns are in a very difficult position and they don't know how to cope with it. I know I wouldn't know how to cope with it...

windygalestoday · 11/04/2008 09:09

i think possibly being so poor that lali was the best thing that could happen to them and their villagers ,gifts of money and being idolised as a godess are probably more profitable than farm work.
