Nursery worker found guilty of manslaughter

Such a dreadful case.
A nursery worker Kate Roughley, has been found guilty of manslaughter when a 9 month old baby, Genevieve in her care at a nursery died after being placed face down, tightly swaddled and strapped to a bean bag and covered with a blanket.
She left the obviously distressed baby girl in that position for 1 hour and 37 minutes.
Beyond horrific.
Where were the other adults at that nursery ?
How could they allow it to happen ?

The poor wee baby and her grieving parents.
How can they ever get over that Sad

Awful.

Face down. That goes against advice given for years.

BertieBotts · 20/05/2024 17:26

The transcript of the CCTV in the nursery (sorry, can't remember where I read it now but there wasn't a thread then) is really heartbreaking. Such awful care. I'd be so upset if my children were at that nursery, and the poor baby who died, it's beyond belief Sad

It wouldn't have only been that one worker at fault. It sounded like a total failure of safeguarding.

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 20/05/2024 17:27

She’s a wicked bitch.

35965a · 20/05/2024 17:28

Pure evil through and through.

What she did was grotesque. The poor little mite and her poor parents. I imagine the murderer will have a dreadful time in prison (not that she deserves any sympathy whatsoever). How anyone can treat a defenceless baby like that is beyond me.

NewName24 · 20/05/2024 17:29

BBC Report

That is horrific. So heart breaking.
But as others have asked, where were the colleagues? Who was supervising? Who was monitoring the CCTV ?
The lack of all safeguarding procedures here is shocking.

She should get life

I cant understand some of the observations though, of her saying things to the child, who observed and heard these and what did they say to her about them?

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 20/05/2024 17:30

She strapped a 9 month old FACE DOWN to a beanbag, swaddled in a blanket so tightly she couldn’t move, with another blanket covering her from her head to her toe. And left her there for an hour and a half by which point she had suffocated.

I hope the evil bitch rots in hell.

She was the nursery manager. She was in charge. Disgusting and heartbreaking. Poor little girl.

Well she was the deputy manager according to what I read.

GirlOverboard123 · 20/05/2024 17:41

Good. I've been following this story, she's an evil cow. Hopefully she gets a nice long sentence.

Fulshaw · 20/05/2024 17:43

We trust those people to look after our precious, precious children. Gross betrayal of that trust, and so much more besides.

Whatthefuckwasthat · 20/05/2024 17:46

Horrendous. Makes me feel sick.

The attitude and culture of staff in both nurseries and care home needs some serious legislation.

All it takes is for a ring leader/manager to take a dislike to an infant/toddler/eldery person and it starts. The rest of the staff follow suit if showing dislike to said child/person to please the ring leader and next thing you know they’ve become enemy number one. The scapegoat and subject of all foul treatment. The actions of dislike become more and more intense as time goes on. The child/person is no longer seen as a person but a source of annoyance for everyone.

It’s a horrific group mentality and plays out in a lot of places. Obviously not to this extent but still awful.

tsmainsqueeze · 20/05/2024 17:48

Those little peachy cheeks and trusting smile ,what type of mentality would want to harm such a precious thing.
That evil bitch deserves no mercy whatsoever.

Yes this, it wouldnt surprise me if it all comes out that staff were being bullied by her

Fernticket · 20/05/2024 17:52

I was never blessed with children, but even I know that putting a baby face down as she did was a bad Idea. I just cant understand how she didn't know that. Also how can someone take against a baby as she seems to have done.

LeonoraFlorence · 20/05/2024 17:55

This is heartbreaking. Poor little soul, look at her. Makes me feel sick to read this.

Sunshineclouds11 · 20/05/2024 17:55

This honestly has knocked me sick.

Evil twat.

Walkingwithdinosaurs · 20/05/2024 17:57

My god this is horrific!! What inspections had been carried out? I can guarantee that there have been other incidents of neglect/cruelty from this nursery. I hope she gets life. There should also be others responsible, at that age group rooms have a ratio to meet… who else was in that room, they should also be held accountable

JustKeepWalkingPast · 20/05/2024 17:58

This story made me feel sick to my stomach when I read it (like any child abuse does). That evil bitch should have been found guilty of murder. I hope she gets at least 15 years in prison. That poor baby, and her poor parents

BurbageBrook · 20/05/2024 17:59

She's evil. She wanted to hurt and deeply distress and abuse this baby but I also think she knew exactly how risky it was and that she could die. Makes me absolutely sick to my stomach. I have a baby the same age and I cannot imagine how anyone could ever want to hurt her. I hope she has the longest possible sentence. Sick, evil bitch.

CoffeeAndPeanuts · 20/05/2024 17:59

No matter how long she gets in
prison, it'll never bring that beautiful
baby back.

Whats happening with the owners?

greenredyellow · 20/05/2024 18:04

Disgusting woman. Absolutely evil actions.

I have to say though I was surprised that she was being paid £11-£11.50 ph? Why is childcare such a low paid job when these people are looking after what is most precious to us.
