What is annoying about the alcohol ban is that it comes from NICE, who should be basing everything on actual research. Fine for the Royal College of Midwives or Royal College of Obstetricians to come out with this advice, but not NICE - they shoudl be research-based.

FFS, all that will happen is that people will lie to the chemist about the age of their child to buy the remedies they have always used. It's more likely that more babies will be be given the wrong dosage as the safe dosage for under twos will now not be on the label.

I dont think meds work any way and calpol has been used for as long as i can remember. Parents should take better responsibility when giving meds to kids. Whats to say when a doctor prescribes meds the parents are going to take care in giving the right dosage. They could be covering their backs and dont want to say their is a faulty batch out there!!!!

Anyway I dont use anything other than calpol, except for this winter when kids were really ill but even then the cough meds did not work my kids stilll have the cold.

I found a med in a healthshop its made from black elderberry which is supposed to strenghthen the immune system hence kids getting less coughs and colds and if they do they do not last that long. Currently I am giving that to my kids but they do need to be over a year old but the people in the healthshop have said some people use it on kids under 1.

I have seen changes the very next day, my girls cough has gone, my boys snuffly nose is clearing rapidly so I am pleased with that.

I noticed when I was in Florida a year or so ago that all the children's med's said not to give to children under 2..even Vick's vapour rub!

Well I wnet into work yesterday, expecting to see empty shelves. Only a couple of bottles ahve been removed. Tixylix chesty is still on the shelves with a labels saying not recommended for unders 2s. Everything else, includign Medised was still on the shelves - behind the pharmacy counter where they always are. I evne got sold a bottle of Medised, no questions asked, but that could be becasue I work there and they know my children aren't under 2
