Yay great news! Not quite sure how it will be achieved though.

Ha.

Love when these types get their comeuppance. I hope the rebuild is financially ruinous for them.

It's going to cost an absolute fortune. Its built over old mines for a start. I used to love to visit TCH as a child, it really is an incredible place and about 3 miles from where I now live

Well that will cost them something plus teach them a lesson. I can just imagine how the inspections will go afterwards after its done

"thats wrong and will have to be changed" "thats not right either , you will have to do it again" will be a right ball ache for them and serves the greedy bastards right for destroying it in the first place.

That’s fabulous!
It’s going to take a hell of an architect and builder to get it right - a very unusual and complex job…

Yep! They've got to try to build it 'wrong.' 😆

Gonna be quite an achievement! Smile

People have apparently stolen bricks etc so hopefully these get returned.
It serves them right I hope it costs them every penny they have ... there's no words to describe these money grabbers.

Great news for us Dudley folk and hopefully it brings the trade back from around the country once its rebuilt.

Great news! I just hope that HMRC, the police and council have things up their respective sleeves that will ensure the scumbags behind this arson adhere to this ruling because I suspect they’ll put every obstacle in the way of a rebuild.

What's the point of rebuilding it

The original is gone and a replacement is a complete waste of money

It's just pointless

It's sad the original was callously destroyed but to rebuild it is silly

Yeah, not really. Otherwise the decision would not have been made to do it!

The owners have been ordered to pay for the rebuild. It's not a waste of money it's part of our Black Country heritage. I was an incredible place and will be again

The enforcement is against ATE Farms Ltd which has 3 years to complete the rebuild.

I would bet good money that ATE Farms files for insolvency prior to the 3 year deadline. Sadly I don't think this pub will ever get rebuilt and those that did will never pay.

Although they are still under criminal investigation for arson.

The enforcement was issued to 2 company secretaries at ATE Farms, Carly Taylor, George Adam Taylor and the owner/ occupier of thr land TCH stood on. This information is on the South Staffordshire Council website.

It’s costing the money of the people that destroyed it. It is teaching them a lesson and setting an example that people can’t get away with doing that sort of thing. That is the point.

So from this perspective what should be done when a historic, landmark building befalls a curiously unfortunate fate? Curious, especially so soon after it changes hands.

If, for example, some kind of foul play was suspected, should everyone just shrug and say c'est la vie?

And what then, say, the landowners, in possession of a vacant and cleared plot of land, apply to do something like, maybe build an automated car wash, or a mini mart? Is that a sensible use of money rather than a waste?

Frankly it boils my blood that in instances like deliberate mature tree felling, people think they can ride roughshod over protection orders or preserved heritage buildings and then effectively get their own way once the 'problem' has been obliterated.

In this case it was an accidental fire, so the insurance will have paid out and surely the devastated owners will want the building replicated? Isn't that how it goes? Actually, just saw there's a criminal investigation, so scrap that 👻

We all know it will never get rebuilt though. Having a court order telling them to rebuild it is not the same as that court order being enforced so they actually do rebuild it.

There’s something in my village that was demolished unlawfully and the owner was told to rebuild it. That was ten years ago and it still hasn’t been rebuilt, because the council has failed to enforce the court order.

The pub that was illegally demolished in London was rebuilt.
And this one has a thousands strong group of campaigners who have adopted it as a cause, which means it will be harder for the council to let it lie if owners don’t comply.
