Just flashed up on my BBC news alerts, but nothing further to be found at the moment. Very sad - she's the same age as my Mum.

yes, that is terribly sad - have been following the story

K20 · 08/03/2008 15:30

I loved the short feather cut she had in the early 90's - v v trendy and suited her

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 08/03/2008 15:32

Oh no!!

Of a broken heart I am sure.

Tears here.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 08/03/2008 15:32

I read about her collapsing in the week and it was suspected a stroke. DH just said he knew she had cancer when I told him.

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/03/2008 15:33

yes, broken heart was what I thought...

Very sad- She always appeared such a lovely lady, I agree about broken heart, how anyone would ever get over such a tragic death of their child is beyond me. Very very sad.

RIP

allgonebellyup · 08/03/2008 15:53

oh god how horrible.

and slightly inappropriate to talk about her short feather hair cut in the early 90s?

Very sad

brookeslay · 08/03/2008 16:17

very sad she was a caring person helping her old colleague ed mitchell. Though a childs death is sad and affects your life in all ways.

FAWKEOFF · 08/03/2008 16:30

how sad such a shame

Aero · 08/03/2008 16:32

I obviously missed that - what happened to her child? How awful.

"Barnes and former government minister Denis MacShane had a daughter called Clare, who died at 24 as the result of a skydiving accident in Australia in 2004." BBC News

How sad Always thought she seemed a lovely lady.

Lulumama · 08/03/2008 16:55

i hope she is at peace now, i don;t think she ever recovered from the tragic death of her daughter.

TsarChasm · 08/03/2008 16:57

Poor lady.

Aero · 08/03/2008 17:45

Mercy · 08/03/2008 17:47

She was in a different league compared to some of today's women newsreaders.

FranSanDisco · 08/03/2008 17:50

How very sad

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 08/03/2008 17:54

She was Mercy, the news was the story, not her. She was a great interviewer and always seemed to have enormous empathy with who ever she was interviewing.

She had probably forgotten more than Natasha Plink Plonk and her ilk will ever retain.

RIP.

smoggie · 08/03/2008 18:13

SlartyBartFast · 08/03/2008 22:18
