Apologies if there is a thread on this already.

I can't be the only one pissed off by what feels like this insinuation of the PM's that if we don't / can't afford private school for our children we are not aspirational enough for them, or not working hard enough to get them there.

Screw you Rishi.

He lives on an entirely different planet to the majority of us .

ladypenelopesfan · 29/09/2023 07:10

He doesn't insinuate this at all.

I support private schools (even though I never had a child in one) because every child in a private school is one less child in the overburdened mainline system.

And, as he says, you can't solve the problems in the education system by taxing 7% of the children, it won't raise enough money.

Yeah, I thought he was massively out of order. There’s a significant proportion of people paying fees beause the Tories have trashed the state sector.

megletthesecond · 29/09/2023 07:25

The families I know who use private school paid for it via a whopping inheritance or grandparents. Not all their own hard work.

This is a nonsense post.

You are saying that people have to pay to have their kids educated because there isn't a school for them?
And that this is the Tories fault ?

I've never understood why school fees aren't taxed. VAT exemptions are generally for essentials - food (but not crisps & chocolate), healthcare (but not beauty care), and so on. Private education isn't necessary because your children can be adequately educated without it. It's more like paying for a lovely meal at a restaurant (VAT), when you can cook adequate food at home.

If your hard work, rich parents or timely investments enable you to have all your dinners at lovely restaurants or send your kids to posh schools, that's nice. But there's no reason you should get the exemption reserved for basics.

I don't care what this obnoxious Brylcreamed pipsqueak says. His soft manicured hands tell us clearly enough he has never worked a day in his life.

I just wish there were someone else to vote for.
