Are we going to get back pay 30k x 36years, where can i book round the world cruise

Ledodgy · 19/02/2008 16:36

I wouldn't say no!

MrsWobble · 19/02/2008 16:42

but you'll be paying yourselves - childcare costs are paid by the parents, cleaners are paid by the people who live in the house that is cleaned, cooks are paid by the people who eat the food etc etc.

and if you consider the impact of tax then actually getting a "wage" for these things would make you worse off!

theBOD · 19/02/2008 23:18

why would you deserve a wage for running your own household and looking after your own children?

UnquietDad · 19/02/2008 23:20

I saw this today and thought it might have kicked off big-style by now.

I'm disappointed.

Psychomum5 · 19/02/2008 23:25

I love articles like this.....prooves my worth to DH

not that I ever would expect to be paid to live the life I want (ie, being able to stay at home with my children), but to be able to point out to DH that in fact I am worth more than he sometimes claims makes me feel better.

especially when he reckons that all I do all day is sit around with my friends and drink coffee!!!!

UnquietDad · 19/02/2008 23:33

I think it would be good.

Subject to all the other stuff thrown in which people have to do in order to earn a salary.

Timesheets, performance reviews, meetings, outside inspections (OfMuM?), etc, etc...

How about being made to apply for funding to ensure the salary continues? That was a fun one I had in the vol-com sector.

S1ur · 19/02/2008 23:37

Do you fancy league tables of parenting too then UQD?

No? How about union regs then? I say SAHM demand a tea break every 15 hours AND the right to work in safety not subject to the hazards and long-term ills of working with dangerous substances like play-doh and lego.

when do we want it?

NOW

Highlander · 20/02/2008 11:02

probably get shot down for this but here goes............

I saty at home as DH's job is long hours. Half of hi salary is taxed at 40%. Where only 1 partner is owrking with kids still at school, I think there should be a tax break for us. I'd like DH to be taxed at the regular rate.

who earns £8 an hour?! I certainly don't. I am employed full time and earn just over 17k. I would LOVE to earn 30k p/a.

3andnomore · 20/02/2008 17:36

I would happily do Housework if I was paid 30K for that....we would be so well off

If I was payed 30 grand I might actually have to make sure the house is clean

soapbox · 20/02/2008 17:45

Interesting - I suppose though that one would also need to pay WOTH parents for doing the majority of this work as well though

Unless, of course, the fairies take care of all these chores for them

Far too underpaid IMHO - where is the compensation for having to sit through another episode of Lazytown and deal with the aftermath....

Flamesparrow · 20/02/2008 18:50

Psycho counts as a housewife now All hers are in school.

I'd get very little of that salary... i tend not to clean or do washing much I would probably only get childcare pay, and even that should be docked per MN post (or can I say that it is encouraging autonomous play?)
