Europe is facing a demographic disaster. That's the inevitable product of weakened faith in the Creator, failed families, disrespect for the sanctity of human life, and eroded morality

Eroded morality? Didn't they have polygamy until fairly recently?

I am biased though- only ever encountered one Mormon, he chatted to me for ages whilst dh was inside a model shop with ds1 (DS2 in a buggy and wouldn't fit into door) then went into a sudden rant about how he wanted to murder all rapists, adulteres etc.

hugely hoping he wasn't representative, just mad.

Was just abotu to get the popcorn out - oh well, never mind...

Europe, you say?

Does he mean it will end up like the US? I mean with its homicide rate, levels of care and compassion for the rest of the world etc.?

Sounds suspiciously like the "moral" rantings of those US church leaders who in short order turn out to have a vice den and crystal meth habit and issue a tearstained apology from the bosom of their forgiving family.

hecate · 08/02/2008 15:11

well, is there not actually a point in the middle of all that..really...really odd wording!

Many people don't have any faith (not a problem in itself, but it did act as moral guidance for many - and fear of going to hell!)

families are splitting left right and centre, this does have an impact on people - emotionally and financially.

Disrespect for the sanctity of human life - come on, who can argue with that? look around and see it all...gangs, happy slapping, knife attacks.... and not just human life, for example I was listening to the radio today and 2 young lads have just been sent to a holiday camp detention centre for beating 3 sheep to death with a metal pole and filming it on their phone.

eroded morality - well, yes. Many many things are quite acceptable nowadays that people wouldn't have dreamed of doing not so long ago.

Add to that the collapse of community, rights without responsibilities, everyone out for themselves.....

Don't get me wrong, there are GREAT changes - at one time many women would just accept being hit as part of marriage, for example.

But in many ways, things are really turning to shit.

Tortington · 08/02/2008 15:12

he'd have a point if he wasn't a republican

tigana · 08/02/2008 15:18

What hecate and custy said.
Yes, he is something of a nutter and I am in no way convinced by his basing of these problems in a lack of "faith", but it does feel a bit like things are going to hell in a handbasket "these days".

Then again, the grain of truth doesn't automatically mean the rest of the crap around it is valid does it...

CoteDAzur · 08/02/2008 17:14

I am fairly sure that he was trying to refer to abortion and stem cell technologies by "disrespect for the sanctity of human life", and not to murders of which there are plenty in the US.
