I couldn't see any threads on this, and all the previous ones are full. Archie's inquest has started today in Chelmsford. His mother says she believes he died after accidentally falling from a banister

Still such a sad case. From what has come out this week does seem maybe his mum had difficulty accepting it all because her story keeps changing.. see what comes out the next few days but the stories of being bullied 🙁

A very sad case. I really hope it was an accident or stunt gone wrong but fear it wasn't. Poor boy.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/02/2023 19:08

I believe the verdict was accidental death. Though I still suspect it was a suicide attempt, rather than a prank. Very tragic, what ever the verdict. Hope his mum will one day finds some peace.

I wonder what was meant by the message "you're using every night" sent to Archie or his mother. This all needs investigating thoroughly by the police. I'd really like to say what I think of his mother and her sidekicks but the truth is becoming illegal in this country.

Yeah I followed this case closely at the time and well I won't say what I think about it because I'd get banned.

Detective Sergeant Tiffany Gore said that Archie had written in Whatsapp messages about being depressed and thoughts of self-harm.

In one, the youngster wrote: “That’s why I’m so depressed all the time and I don’t cut my wrists but I have tried and thought about killing myself.”

With this evidence I really don't think they can say it's a prank gone wrong. Poor boy, so sad.

Coroner concluded accidental death, based on the evidence.

"While Archie had expressed periods of low mood in the preceding 12 months there was no evidence of it at the time of his death, the coroner said."

Theunamedcat · 11/02/2023 13:53

They hate putting suicide on a death certificate and I think she would fight that conclusion anyway honestly I don't think she has processed his death yet

Somefang · 11/02/2023 13:55

Hopefully the poor boy can finally rest in peace without being flogged to the media.

A United Nations committee will consider a complaint the UK government violated the rights of Archie Battersbee, who died when treatment was withdrawn after a court battle....

OrlandointheWilderness · 05/04/2023 22:16

God above. The poor lads brain stem was literally necrotic.

prh47bridge · 06/04/2023 07:28

No problem with them looking at the case. I hope, given the evidence, that they find that Archie's rights were not violated.

Untitledsquatboulder · 06/04/2023 08:20

Well let's hope so unless we want our ICUs full of ventilated corpses.

Dinopawus · 06/04/2023 08:43

I hope they will find that health professionals put Archie’s welfare at the centre of this, did appropriate tests when they were not frustrated from doing so and treated Archie and him family with kindness and empathy.

I also hope that so called Christian legal organisations are roundly and publicly criticised for their role in pointlessly prolonging the life of a child with no hope of recovery.

This bothers me.

It's become about his mums rights for him to have more time.

Rather than his right to die peacefully when he was proven to already be brain stem dead and was kept alive solely because medicine allowed his bodily functions to be replaced.

I'm an advocate for disabled people having a right to life.

But I question how ethical it is to blur the lines between disability and medically dead.

As a previous poster pointed out we would have ICU backlogged with people being kept alive by machines and then we will have people dying who did have a chance of survival.

There's ethics and then there's ethical.

Hopefully. I dont see how there can be any other outcome but who knows...
