am i the only one on here that feels as sense of jubilation that at last a political party seems to really be courting the woman's family vote?

like wake up guys, there are lots of us, and no one really pitches to us until now...and i'm GLAD!

he might even sway me, you never know...i'm so fuckingcheesedoff disillusioned with new labour.

no one secretly pleased about this???

or even overtly so.

doesn't matter what happens in a way, but a real change that issues that mainly affect women being really looked at.

With an MP who has a son who holds a 'Fuck off, we're rich' party, I can honestly say no.
Leopards never change their spots and neither do the tories. Sorry.

sanae · 03/02/2008 20:41

Which women's issues are they looking at?

Heathcliffscathy · 03/02/2008 20:43

seriously looking at maternity services, looking at the dutch model...which is just today's example.

AND he came on here innit! where's gordon eh?

I found myself agreeing with some of what he said.

I felt dirty, and not in a good way.

scanner · 03/02/2008 20:45

Nothing could make me vote Tory.

motherinferior · 03/02/2008 20:46

Nor me. Which is why I feel soiled, and betrayed in a kind of non-specific way.

Heathcliffscathy · 03/02/2008 20:46

you know...i'm not saying vote tory by any stretch like i said, i never have...but by god it's good that they are courting our vote....i like feeling courted...no one has ever done it politically before and it feels GOOD.

OP posts:
SorenLorensen · 03/02/2008 20:47

I know what you mean, mi. There have been times when I have heard DC speak and he actually seems to make some sense, and seem fairly reasonable...and then I think "he's a Tory politician...they are all evil."

I think I would spontaneously combust if I ever managed to vote Conservative.

Heathcliffscathy · 03/02/2008 20:47

that's wrong though isn't it ladies....just not voting for someone because of their label....surely that isn't democracy it's prejudice...surely our job is to use our vote to give power to those we deem will do the fairest and best and perhaps most progressive job...

OP posts:
sanae · 03/02/2008 20:48

I don't belong to or support any particular party, but i really don't see why anyone should feel guilty about voting Tory. PLEASE don't tell me that you think labour are any better, or that they have done more for the less well off in this country. They are just wasting, wasting, wasting our tax is all that I can see, and that in itself is morally outrageous.

Peachy · 03/02/2008 20:48

So he came on here- big deal, just shows he fanicied milking his recent new addition to the family for a bit of publicity imo.

If you look at the mat nurse threads you'll see a mixed response actualy- not everyone (me included) is kenn, I'd hate it. I'd much rather get to see a MW regualrly whilst pg, and to know there'll be enough to cover a home birth when baby comes. Basics first eh?

Or a myriad of other things. Like reversing the local ban on free nappies for incontinent kids under eight, providing home care for older adults without taking their homes, having a mental health system where my friend doesn't have to spend eight hours on the phone to SS for someone to assess her sister (mentally ill and threatening suicide, GP wont attend) only to be told that there isn't a SW in mental health atm.

get the basicss right beofre you add on any frippery!

SorenLorensen · 03/02/2008 20:48

Yeah but...they're Tories, soph

Well it's innovative thinking at least from a political party & Cameron (or maybe it's his wife lol) has a vague idea about what concerns me as a mother.

Would have to see the whole package though from any party before they got my vote.

but he's looking at all of that...he's sent gow over to look at the whole dutch model (consistency of care, 66 % home birth rate etc etc) and the press have jumped on this aspect...

OP posts:
Peachy · 03/02/2008 20:50

Sorry samae but i do think Labour better- dont expect you to agree, why should you? But I ahe the right to say it and i wont feel abd about that either. Actually I think Lib Dems better too, if DC is so much the family man where are his SN friendly policies (he has a disabled child)? Don't seem to exist.....

rantinghousewife · 03/02/2008 20:50

Well I think 'Fuck off I'm rich' just about sums it up for me.
I have to say that due to the way parties are funded, the chances of getting a fair and just government are virtually nil anyway. They will always pander to big business because, guess what, they're all funded by big business.
{Cynical...moi?!!}

Heathcliffscathy · 03/02/2008 20:51

[frustrated] but new labour are thatcherite, tony blair modeled so much of what he did on her and in fact carried on many of major's policies.

i wasn't expecting this thread to be about this, but now it is....i think it's absurd...it does make the notion of democracy a joke frankly.

OP posts:
sanae · 03/02/2008 20:51

And as for Labour blaming "pushy middle class parents" for the mess of our educcation system, well! Agree with sophable - can we forget labels and look at policies.

Peachy · 03/02/2008 20:53

Wella sI am active locally I am quite able to look at policies- please don't judge me without knowing me! (I was going to stand for a Lib Dem seat pre- pregnancy).

And Soph, dont ne frustrated you cant change my mind, each to their own as it were

Heathcliffscathy · 03/02/2008 20:54

peachy it's not so much who you vote for it's 'you can't change my mind'...what on earth is that all about? it means in fact that you are not prepared to look at policies doesn't it...as if you were you would be willing to be open to persuasion if a party were changing.

OP posts:
sanae · 03/02/2008 20:54

sorry, education. By the way, I am not sure who I will vote for next election, but as rantinghousewife says, prospects seem pretty gloomy whoever gets in.

rantinghousewife · 03/02/2008 20:55

Of course New Labour are Thatcherite, they're funded on a Thatcherite model (as are all political parties, or those with any chance of courting a vote).
But I wouldn't be so naive as to think that the Tories would be any less Thatcherite. And I don't trust Dave any more than I would trust Blair or Gordon for that matter.
