I know it's early days but is anyone else following the US elections?

DH lectures in US politics so it's a very common topic of conversation in our house. He tapes and watches the CBS news off sky and the Daily Show.

Just wondered if anyone else was interested

I can't get enough of it! Not sure why as have never been that interested before but finding it fascinating this time around and have been busy learning about caucuses etc. Also just can't WAIT for Bush to be gone so more exciting than other times! Liked Edwards a lot and his policies but I guess he didn't stand a chance. Still tossing up between Obama and Clinton...

peachygirl · 30/01/2008 19:57

ahh yes Dh has instructed me in the ways of the caucus. Apparently they are more more democratic.

I just can't see them working here though. Can you imagine your average bod getting up from in front of the telly and going to a village hall and debating all evening? Hard enough to get people to the polls! Glad Giuliani is out of it - warmonger.

peachygirl · 30/01/2008 20:05

ohh is he definitely out then? We have only heard about John Edwards.

According to C4 news yes. Appalling showing in Florida apparently.

Earlybird · 30/01/2008 20:10

Yes, he's out and evidently will be giving his support to McCain.

mom2latinoboys · 30/01/2008 20:34

I'm registered (IN USA) as an independent and I have to tell you if McCain and Clinton or Obama get the nominations it will be a tough decision. I think all three could do wonderful things for our country. I think I respect McCain the most though.

suedonim · 30/01/2008 20:49

I'm interested because what happens in the US affects an awful lot of the world. My ds1 lives (and has a vote!) in the US, too.

Desiderata · 30/01/2008 20:56

Obama has charisma .. and hair.

peachygirl · 31/01/2008 19:56

Hi everyone.
If you are in the UK the Independent has a great wallchart in today and a 20 page booklet about it all tomorrow.

oh really? I wish I'd seen that!

charlieandlola · 31/01/2008 20:11

Early days? I placed my bet with Paddypower in 2006 on the nominations. DH is trying to find accommodation to get to both conventions, and if he manages it I will be

peachygirl · 02/02/2008 19:26

DH is now very cross as he forgot to buy it

I'm bored of all the hype now but am following things closely.

yama · 02/02/2008 19:57

I love Obama. I get the impression that he is a conviction politician. I know that may be cliched but it is impression that counts at the polls.

Clinton would say anything if she thought it would get her votes. Again that is only an impression.

I do know that Obama voted against the War on Iraq whereas Clinton is only opposed to it in hindsight.

yama · 02/02/2008 19:57

By that last sentence I mean Clinton voted for the War on Iraq.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 02/02/2008 20:53

afraid I'm hardly following it at all, and I'm from USA! I think it will be an interesting election tho!

peachygirl · 04/02/2008 19:36

DH has just told me there is to be a primary in Notting hill for US citizens over here.. How exciting
