So what the heck is gonna happen now re Russia and Poland?

So as we all know, Poland is a NATO country and Russia have struck it (I don’t know if it was intentional or an accident, not sure if that makes any difference anyway)

So what may happen now? They’ve always said that NATO would intervene if they hit a NATO country and now they have. I am terrified we are going to end up in a horrific war.

Someone please tell me that that is unlikely to happen

We don't know what's going to happen

Article 5 is trending on twitter, and the tough talk from NATO is now going to be put to the test.

Before this, trending was speculation on whether Biden has Covid (known contact of the newly positive Cambodian leader, one change to itinerary). That's speculative, but if he is incapacitated, then much will rest on Kamala Harris

RoseAndRose · 15/11/2022 22:55

We don't know if it was accidental, or accidental-done-a-purpose

If it has been a stray overshoot that landed in a field and caused no real harm, then a way round might have been found. But two people died, which rather changes things.

Putin has suffered reverses of late. So would he up the ante now?

I'm not sure how many ladders NATO has to climb down, given the very clear statements made earlier

caringcarer · 15/11/2022 23:02

I don't think it matters whether it was done on purpose or by error but Poland is a member of NATO and 2 people died. I would be amazed if NATO did not get involved now. If no one had died possibly could have been dialed back.

Pootles34 · 15/11/2022 23:04

Ive also heard it could have been from Ukrainian anti-aircraft, we just dont know yet.

woohoowoohoo · 15/11/2022 23:05

I don't think they will get involved, Russia won't admit it and Nato will find a way of not being able to prove it was them

N1C · 15/11/2022 23:07

The timing seems suspicious. A few days ago Russia suffered a major embarrassment by losing Kherson. Now a missile or two accidentally goes astray into NATO Poland? I think Putin again is deliberately testing NATO.

Dodie66 · 15/11/2022 23:09

They are just reporting that they were Russian made missiles

asblindasabat · 15/11/2022 23:10

I really hope they were stray missiles. If they weren’t, I don’t even want to think about the consequences.

Reports on twitter suggest that the "accidental "strike hit or was very close to a power line between the EU and Ukraine. Most likely a deliberate provocation from Russia....

Russia attacked several British citizens on UK soil - one of whom died. We did nothing.

Russia are denying any involvement with this missile - so it will probably be de escalated through negotiation. We'll likely see an increase in air defence over Poland.

SweetBonanza · 15/11/2022 23:33

The timing - during the G20 - is indeed very suspicious

Try reading the latest entries on the mumsnet thread:
Ukrainian invasion part 35
Some very calm knowledgable people on there.
Just put that in the search bar and you will find it.

Definitely do this and avoid the lunatics on the other thread who take perverse pleasure in stoking fear.

woohoowoohoo · 16/11/2022 06:57

They're definitely not invoking article 5, that would be in response to a member state under attack - Poland is not under attack. And they think it's a Ukrainian air defence missile anyway .
