North of England is best region in UK for maternity care

... according to the recent survey. Doesn't surprise me. North East England seems to be a brilliant place to bring up a family in so many ways. Friendly, not over-populated, cheaper, much less traffic, brilliant countryside in all directions. Who'd live down south.

I couldn't agree with you more Threadie, another positive point is that because they dont have stupid house prices in the north east, midwives and nursing staff can actually afford to live there and there arn't the dreadful staff shortages there that they have in the south.

I lived in both and I guarantee the quality of life is better in the north. But don't tell everyone or they'll all want to come

Yes, I hadn't thought specifically about the affordable homes for midwives, but I'm sure that's part of the reason for the better care. Plus, on average people are just friendlier and kinder here than in the south!

(Well, I'm sure I'm stereotyping more than a little, but I have lived in both regions and that's how it strikes me.)

Ah but the survey wasn't of the UK - Scotland's not in it

I'm in the north-west and our maternity unit always seems understaffed and has done for years.

Threadie · 26/01/2008 19:14

Sorry, soontobe. I live in North East. Prefer it by miles to north west btw.

Threadie I'm about to move back there in a few months. Do you know Heighington? I'm after general opinions? Sorry to hijack!
