Looks like it might be a while before they can formally announce he's in the clear though. Must be tremendously hard for him and her family.

I have epilepsy, and have wondered how on earth a pathologist would know if you died from a seizure? There aren't any obvious physical symptoms... you'd have to deduce it somehow, I think.

clumsymum · 08/01/2008 13:49

She did apparently have a history of seizures following an accident some years ago (according to an earlier report).

I have trouble with the idea that someone who has such a medical condition thinks using non-prescription drugs is a good idea. And there seems to be no suggestion that they had NOT been using cocaine the previous night.

mumemma · 08/01/2008 13:51

Nice to see that the press have totally wrecked his career in the meantime.

no winners there. Except the press of course.

SorenLorensen · 08/01/2008 13:53

I assume his career is down the pan anyway, possibly even if he is cleared of the cocaine charges (well, as a children's presenter at least - Richard Bacon did go on to do adult programmes after he admitted taking cocaine, didn't he?) Which will be bad news for SmArt as he's the only one who can actually draw.

She was such a pretty girl - I vaguely remember her from See It Saw It. Very sad.

throckenholt · 08/01/2008 13:56

it would be sad to lose SmArt - my kids love it - and we don't have any one tape

mummypig · 08/01/2008 13:56

well I'm relieved. Must be awful for him to have found her, let alone being suspected of causing her death. It reminds me of all those awful cases of parents being suspected of abusing or even killing their kids when it was just a terrible accident/genetic disorder. I can't begin to think how I would feel if I had to go through all that.

Have to say that if they had been taking cocaine though, I completely agree with clumsymum and think it's a pretty stupid thing to do if you have a neurological condition.

WendyWeber · 08/01/2008 13:57

She was gorgeous and the whole thing is terribly sad.

relieved that he has been somewhat cleared, I mean, not that we will miss out on SMART. I was always very impressed by him and both my boys love it.

WendyWeber · 08/01/2008 13:58

(but yes, using cocaine at all in their circs, let alone with her medical history, was very very stupid - and admitting it even more stupid, but I can imagine how distraught he was at the time )

ruty · 08/01/2008 14:03

well i suppose even if he hadn't admitted it, it may have been found in her blood stream. Stupid yes. But not uncommon.

Flllightattendant · 08/01/2008 14:08

Gosh I am very relieved for the poor bloke. There was nothing about him that seemed suspicious to me, I really like him.

I often think innocent people are guilty, so that means I must be right of course in this case

Flllightattendant · 08/01/2008 14:10

...so many people do Charlie though. Most people I know have at least tried it. I never have but that is because I'm a complete control freak and a wimp.

I do wonder now exactly how much of the energy he displays on TV is, well, natural though!!!!

Poor girl.

Fimbo · 08/01/2008 14:15

I feel so sorry for him. The media had a field day and his career in TV is probably over now.

ruty · 08/01/2008 14:22

I feel more sorry for her.

tortoiseSHELL · 08/01/2008 14:22

Poor man - the press have annihilated his career.

I SO don't think names should be made public until there is some actual evidence. There is plenty of time for that, and it might actually prevent this sort of thing.

Or, dh suggested, that the same number of column inches that were devoted to destroying the person should be devoted to apologising.

clumsymum · 08/01/2008 14:24

"...so many people do Charlie though."

Says it all doesn't it? It seems to be considered normal behaviour in some circles.

I don't because it buggars you up .... oh, and its illegal.

I liked Mark too, love SMart. But frankly I do think his career should be over if he flouts the law, same goes for anyone in any career, actually.

Flllightattendant · 08/01/2008 14:28

I wasn't defending it as such, clumsy...I hate drugs like that too but I know lots of people do see them as normal and harmless.
