The biggest miscarriage of justice in British history. Around 700 people convicted of crimes they did not commit based on evidence from a faulty computer system. Many more paid large sums they did not actually owe to Post Office and lost their reputations, livelihoods, homes and relationships over this.
Those who should be in the dock include:
Paula Vennells - former Post Office CEO
Angela van den Bogerd - former senior executive at Post Office
Gareth Jenkins - former Fujitsu employee who seems to have perjured himself on multiple occasions
Anne Chambers - another Fujitsu employee who appears to have lied in court
Tim Parker - former Post Office chairman
Various Post Office investigators who failed to investigate and lied to victims
and many more.
Given what has emerged about the scale of the scandal, it is not unreasonable to say that Post Office was run as a criminal enterprise for many years, making profits by extorting money from subpostmasters and occasionally from its own counter staff.
Sadly, it seems a sizeable proportion of those wrongly convicted are not engaging with the process to get their convictions overturned. I suspect some just want to forget the whole thing, but there may also be those holding back because they don't trust Post Office or the justice system after being let down for so long.
