NHS Hospital Food "unacceptable"

Ah, a news article I can agree with. The food I received in the hospital here was vile. Not only did it taste bad but it had very little nutrition in it. Shouldn't a hospital be concerned with our health, including nutrition?

I do appreciate they have a budget to work to, but really the food is atrocious.

i know sue !

i think the issue of people not getting adequate nutrition in hospital is so very important.

expatinscotland · 17/12/2007 17:38

yeah, it's that wake up thing that gets me.

that's why i always say, 'no, thanks, i've brought stuff'.

i even bring my own travel kettle, tea and UHT milks in tiny containers.

sorry but rofl at pork in apple sauce instead .. or a nice prawn kebab

Magrat · 17/12/2007 17:39

when I was in hospital all visitors were instructed to stop by M&S en route

There's a sandwich combination that my friend always had that was the least kosher sandwich combo in the world - Prawn mayo, Ham and cheese and BLT

The nutrition thing is utterly ridiculous. Surely basic cleanliness and nutrition is the foundation of care for the ill? Or am I using the small sensible part of my head again? I shouldn't do that when it comes to state-run services, should I?

camillathechicken · 17/12/2007 17:44

yeah, with a glass of milk on the side, and lard instead of marge!!!

llareggub · 17/12/2007 18:49

I don't know what they did to the egg mayo to get it to smell so bad. I absolutely credit the hospital for my post birth weight loss. They put me off food for a good 2 weeks. I then discovered cake and put it all back on again.

I was in before, during and after having dd for 8 days and the food was inedible. Breakfast was probably the best meal but you had to go and do it yourself and it was white bread (no toast) and cereal. Other than that the hot meals were indistinguishable from each other and the sandwiches were vile.

DH had to bring in supplies from home and/or go to the canteen where he was able to get a better class of sandwich (but still only a sandwich).

Dreadful. Its just wrong.

If I have to eat hospital food I always go for the vegetarian option; that way at least I get some vegetables...

When I had to go in with DS when he was a baby my MIL cooked me proper meals and brought them in (fortunately there was a parents' kitchen for reheating).

HAven't bneen in hsopital since DS2 8 years ago, but then was okay, but I was ravenous b/fing so DH brought me in sandwiches . Thie thisg I hated was every meal had some ghastly unnecessary unfeasibly pink pudding thing - if on a budget why waste time & money on no-nutitional-value puddings?????
