I'd be interested to know what others think, really. I/m not sure my viewpoint is what it is supposed to be!!

Oh God, so true.

Erm, no I should be banking for work.

Gotta go, lol.

I work along side the police but I am not employed by them. Our pay rise is still being negotaiated but it looks as though we will be getting nothing. Thats effectively a pay cut when you take into account inflation. I therefore have little sympathy. They get lots of extras such as a good pension, enhanced overtime and free travel (the Met police). Its about time all public sector workers were treated equally.

MrsGrinch · 15/12/2007 10:46

When I worked in the voluntary sector I didn't get a pay rise for 5 years.

If anything it makes me more sympathetic not less. And I'm pretty sure that the police pension doesn't come for free - they probably have to pay around 10 or 11% of their salary into it.

As far as I am aware the majority of police officers do not want to strike.

My father is an ex police officer. I think that they deserve the pay rise agreed by the arbitration committee.

But then so do Nurses and other public servants that without we would be up the proverbial without a paddle.

Police Officers do get a good pension, but they pay in 11% of their wages, and they had no choice about that (although that may have changed in recent years).

The people that I know who work overtime get enhanced overtime rates.

DH gets no free transport.

Judy1234 · 15/12/2007 14:32

If you strike you aren't paid (unless your union pays) and I think the employer is allowed to sack you so that's a bit of a risk but obviously they aren't likely to sack them all.

They get a better deal than some other public workers but if it's really just over 3 months then no one should have let it get to this point. Unions and the Government have made a mess if it leads to a strike.

bossybaublesinherbritches · 17/12/2007 16:46

The police negotiated a pay deal, that the govt said would be backdated to September IF they went to arbitration.

That was reneged on & THAT is the issue not the amount. Also to rub alt in the wound our wonderful Home Sec sent them all a Christmas message saying how wonderful they all are!

unknownrebelbang · 17/12/2007 17:11

DH will be thrilled I'm sure.
