Wouldn't you love to get ahold of te person who wrote that and give then a piece of your mind. Obviously someone wo doesn't have kids

"inactive" is economist-speak for "doesn't earn money".

But I agree, I think it is an extraordinarily inappropriate use of the word.

I find the figures interesting though. I knew I was in the minority of my peers around here by being a SAHM, but looking at those figures it's no surprise... only 1.9% in the UK (lowest in Europe?)

Makes you wonder if we are going to have crises in the sectors that rely heavily on volunteer/non-paid workers as a result. I also wonder if those figures correlate to how expensive housing is in this country compared to others.

I was surprised by the 1.9% figure, until I realised that the "inactive" statistic includes women over 15 in full time education, which must have a significant impact.

I must say, there's nothing like regularly checking the Europa press releases (at europa.eu/rapid/showInformation.do?pageName=recentPressReleases&guiLanguage=en to put you off the bureacracy surrounding the European Union. There are just SO many studies / visits / seminars / junkets going on.......
